I just got word of Mike's passing. Rest In Eternal Peace.

I was surprised when I heard about Mikes passing. He was my cousin Davids best friend since school and a wonderful friend to our whole family. I was surprised and saddened to learn of Mike's death. Mike was a great person. Always friendly, always smiling and always positive. My contacts with Mike were mostly through politics.
He could really excite a crowd at a political gathering. The West End Republican Club used to have an annual "Old Tyme" rally. Michael was a very dear friend, Our enjoyment of each others company discussing the fire service was always meaningful and full of facts. He is one of those friends that will always be remembered for his endearing lust for life. You have done well my friend.

Mike and I worked together at a Park/Pool on the south side in 1964-65. I think it was McKinley. We became great friends and dined at Enrico's for lunch...

I was shocked and saddened today to learn that Mike had passed away. My father and Mike's father and uncle were lifelong friends. Mike's cousin John and I attended Most Holy Rosary school together. Starting in the 1930s every death in my father's family and mine over the years were placed in the capable and caring hands of the Whelan family. Mike worked tirelessly to benefit everyone, whether in his business, Fairmount Fire Dept or FASny. He was still doing his FASNY duties in Francis House. He will be missed.

I have many fond memories of Michael from Skaneateles days to the days when he so lovingly helped us bury our parents a year from one another. He was a spirit of laughter and love and will be missed.
