On January 16, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children, Mick passed away peacefully of natural causes in his sleep. Mick was born on December 7th, 1974 to Jim and Laurie Wonnacott. He graduated from Butte Central in 1994.
Mick joined the union movement & was passionate about the cause, Mick worked his way to Local 1686 as the business agent. Mick began organizing for the North Regional Organizing Coalition as a regional director for organizers.
Mick owned Mitto’s Painting and at the time of his death worked his dream job as Construction Engineer for Richard Joseph Construction.
In 2008, Mick met the love of his life and soul mate, Erin. They married on August 11th, 2012. Together they raised four amazing children until late 2019 when they welcomed into their life, their little life blessing, Odin. Odin was the final light to Mick’s life. He loved his children more than life itself.
Mick’s biggest achievement in life other than family was his sobriety. Mick was great friends with Bill W. and will celebrate 22 years of sobriety on January 21st.
Mick and his family spent endless hours in the Highlands camping and Four Wheeling with the ATV’s. Once April rolled around, the Wonnacott’s were camping until the kids went back to school. Mick did not own a blade of grass in the highlands but had no problem putting the run on anyone daring to camp in “his” spot.
Mick also enjoyed the kids’ speech and debate & sporting events. He was a dance dad (pay, clap, drive), Loved Cross County, basketball, and loved #29 on the BHS Football Field. This was Mick’s first year to volunteer judging the Speech & Debate meet, just to get the extra time with his son’s involvement. Mick was a Maroon at heart but bled Purple for his children.
Mick was an avid “GO BLUE” fan. He loved when the Wolverines were in “The House” and he found love in Griz Nation while following his niece while playing Griz Softball (#00). Mick was elated when his daughter chose U of M for college. Mick was an old soul, uncomplex, did not like confrontation (except a good union spat). His ideal and perfect way of handling confrontation was to take the high road for the good of peace. Mick was never quick to judge the bad but pray the bad would return to good. He believed in giving all things to God to do with as thou wilt. To those who knew Mick, listen to the song “THE DANCE”.
Mick is preceded in death with his father, Jim Wonnacott. Mick is survived by the love of his life & Wife, Erin. His Children: (Son’s) Shannon, Torre, Briggs, and Odin, (Daughter’s) Pieper, Rikkee, Maddee. Mother: Laurie (Mick Smith), Brother: Jim (Judy) Wonnacott, Sister: Maggee (Jason) Christiaens; Brother-in-Laws: Rick (Elizabeth) Joseph; Jason Ashley; Will (Deloris) McCallion. Mothers & Father-in-Law: Virginia Clark, Richard and Dee Dee Joseph. Nieces and Nephews: Kristin, Tyler, Ryan, Mollie, Tristan, Maggie, Isabelle, Clay, Blake, Hudson and his special furry queenie, Staley
A funeral mass will be held at St. Ann’s at 11 a.m., Monday, January 22nd, with a viewing at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Mount Moriah and a reception to be announced at the church.
In Lieu of Flowers, Mick would want his friends to donate to Tunnel to Towers in honor of our fallen Men and Women in Uniform.
