Michael Zokoych

Michael and his sandwich shop have been a part of my life for as long as I have lived in Portland, since 1978. He painstakingly made his Italian sausages from scratch, seasoning, grinding and stuffing. He made the giardinera and the hot pickles from scratch as well, and his Combo, "Chicago Style" featuring that sausage and the roast beef dipped in au jus, was hands down, and still is, the best sandwich in town, bar none. Mike was my boy friend in college. He was a very special person.
