Michele was an inspiration to me as a young female geologist and historian. I was glad to have met her in person on several occasions. There was no equal in her knowledge of and passion for the history of science. Our (history of science) community will miss her immensely.

Dear Mark,
Dana and I are so sorry to hear this news about Michele. Besides being among the first to welcome us to Smith in 1973, the two of you provided some valuable, critical perspectives on the institution and its recent history. Michele thereafter remained a laser-sharp critic on all manner of topics and a brilliant historian of science. Know that our thoughts are with you now.

Dear Mark,
I am so glad that we all got to visit this August. What an accomplished, force of nature Michele was. This news hit us hard in Austin. We are all thinking of you. Should you ever care to visit, you have a home here, too.
