Alexander, Michelle 63, Lumpkin, GA, passed away Monday, December 09, 2013. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 12, 2013 beginning at 7:00 P.M. EST, at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA. Interment will be held Friday, December 13, 2013 beginning at 1:00 P.M. EST at Springfield Cemetery Annex in Springfield, GA. Michelle Marlene Alexander was born November 18, 1950 in Savannah, GA, daughter of the late Clarence Barry Alexander, Jr. and Gloria Marie Alexander. Prior to her passing Michelle was the Assistant Director for Historic Westville as well as Director of Interpretation. Prior to Westville, Michelle held several positions over a number of years at the Orange County Historical Museum, in Orlando, FL. Michelle held Bachelor's degrees in Botany and Anthropology from the University of Central Florida, and a Masters in Anthropology from Florida State University. It was Michelle's love for history and Georgia that, thirteen years ago, drew her to Westville, a re-creation of an 1850's town. She loved instilling in others, especially school children the wonders of living in a town before electricity. Michelle was a loving sister and devoted friend to many, always there to lend a helping hand. Her quick wit, sense of humor and positive view of life gave so much joy to those who knew and loved her. No longer bound to this place, her beautiful soul will always be remembered. Michelle is survived by her brother Clarence B. Alexander III of, Orlando, FL. In lieu of flowers, those so desiring can make donations in honor of Michelle to Historic Westville, P.O. Box 1850, Lumpkin, GA, 31815.

Not sure what to say?

I have wonderful memories of visiting Michelle in her little log cabin and touring Westville with her. When I left the Orange County Historical Museum, Michelle and her mom gave me luggage that I still use today. Lovely people. Hi Barry.

I had the pleasure of working with this wonderful woman when I worked at the Orange County Historical Museum. She taught me a lot...even got me to line dance. She was as spunky as her mom. Breaks my heart to know she's gone.

Michelle was my surrogate "mom" and I love her dearly. I miss her every day.

Michelle was my friend for close to 27 years. I will always remember her quick, dry sense of humor, ready laugh, passion for education, and her bright & creative mind. She was my dear and trusted friend. She made the world a better place every day.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Michelle's friends and family at this difficult time. Michelle will be truly missed.

Lori Wieszczyk, Westville volunteer

I was priviledged to have a nice visit with Michelle just days before her passing. She was always smiling and joking around. I am so glad God put her in my life and we were able to stay in touch since 1980. I admired her so much and will miss her dearly.

Michelle will certainly be missed. I would tell her every week, "Michelle today is my birthday" and then she would smile and say, "Happy Birthday Lonnie." She knew that I liked to joke and have fun. She didn't mind sharing a little laughter. The employees and guests that visited Westville loved her pleasant and kind personality. She will be missed dearly.
Lonnie Bennett Sr. & Family

I worked with Michelle for over four years at the Orange County Historical Museum. She was an excellent boss and great friend. I will miss her, but know she is at peace and in a much better place.

Barry, I was blessed to have Michelle and your mother in my life. Tom and I will keep you in our prayers.

Although I didn't see her very often due to our living in different states I will always regard her as a "niece" with a beautiful smile & a kind word for everyone.
