Michelle Ginnett Scanlan, a compassionate woman whose life was marked by resilience, creativity, and love for her family and community, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the age of 90. She was born on May 4, 1933, in the charming village of Le Chat, France, to Robert and Jeanne Auguet. Her father worked for the local town post office, and Michelle learned the value of hard work and dedication from him.
Michelle's formative years were shaped by the challenges of growing up in Nazi-occupied France during World War II. Despite the turmoil surrounding her, she exhibited remarkable courage and strength. After the war’s end, Michelle's life took a significant turn when she met her future husband, Robert, a young soldier in the United States Air Force stationed in France. The couple exchanged vows and soon made their home in Châteauroux, France. They would leave France and start a family in Robert’s hometown of New Orleans, LA. A scenic neighborhood of Slidell, La., would be where Michelle would eventually spend the rest of her life.
Professionally, Michelle was a self-employed accountant. Michelle's creative spirit extended beyond her professional endeavors. She found great joy in crafting stories that transported readers to the landscapes of her native France. Through her words, she brought to life the sights, sounds, and emotions of her cherished homeland, sharing her passion for its rich history and culture. Alongside her storytelling, Michelle explored her artistic talents through painting. With acrylics, she expressed herself on canvas, capturing the essence of nature and finding the beauty in the world around her. Michelle's love for nature extended to her cherished garden. She cultivated a retreat of blooming flowers, finding solace and tranquility in the act of tending to her plants. Her garden was a testament to her love for life's simple pleasures and a sanctuary where she could reconnect with the beauty of the natural world.
Above all, Michelle treasured her role as a mother. She adored her two children, Peggy and Alan, whom she valued above all else. Her unwavering devotion and selflessness made her the epitome of a wonderful mother. Michelle's compassionate nature extended beyond her family, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She radiated warmth and empathy, offering a caring heart to those in need.
Sister of Robert Auguet, Andree Alibert, Jossette Dubriel and Josiane Deniau and the late Jeanine Leveque, Joycelyn Frieingeaux. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Michelle leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and compassion that will be cherished by all those who knew her. She will be remembered as a woman of strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and community.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Graveside Services and interment at Greenwood Cemetery, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 11:00 A.M.
