Our brother, uncle, father, son and friend, MIGUEL "MIKE" MENDEZ, JR., 57, of Las Cruces rejoices in his eternal life with our Heavenly Father. He was born November 28, 1953 in Hobbs, New Mexico to Miguel and Susana Mendez. Mike served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps and served during the Persian Gulf War, experiencing life in his travles as a Marine. He retired in 2008 after 30 years of service. Mike attended Las Cruces First Assembly. His travels allowed him to see the many wonders that God created. Mike lived loving everyone and helped those he could and had a calling of taking the Good News of God's promises to all who would listen.He is survived by his father, Miguel Mendez, Sr.; two brothers, Joe Mendez and Ruben Mendez and wife, Diana; five sisters, Magdalena Orosco, Graciela Barron and husband, Ernesto all from California, Susan Lopez and husband, Chuy, Sylvia L. Garcia, Linda Aceves and husband, Johnny all of Las Cruces; two daughters, who were the apple of his eyes, Cynthia M. Mendez of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ashley Helzer from California. He was preceded in death by his mother, Susana Mendez; a brother, Edmundo Covarrubias, his grandmother, Teodora Delgado and numerous uncles.special thanks to Nuffie, Joe and Ernest, who opened opportunities to win lives for Christ. Also, to all his brothers and sisters in Christ. God Bless You All.Visitation for Mike will begin at 6 PM, Monday, August 1, 2011 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the Evening Service will begin at 7 PM. The Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, August 2, 2011 in First Assembly of God, 5605 Bataan Memorial West. Concluding Service and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. Full Military Honors will be accord by a Marine Corps Honor Guard. Serving as casket bearers will Joe Mendez, Ruben Mendez, Israel Ray Lopez, Pablo Garcia, Joe Michael Mendez and Nuffie Hernandez.
