Age 73
SHELBY-- Mike Donald Beam, 73, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013. Born in Cleveland County on Nov. 29, 1939, he was the son of the late Elzie Lee and Della Cora Borders Beam.
He was also preceded in death by his sister Caroline Martin and his infant sister Myra Sue Beam. Mike retired from Fiber Industries and was an active member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, sang in the Keenage Choir, worked with the handyman ministry, and was a Royal Ambassador Leader, nursery volunteer and usher. Mike also volunteered at Hospice and Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He enjoyed camping, but his greatest joy was meeting people.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joyce Gantt Beam; sons, Mark Beam and wife Amanda of Fallston, Tom Beam and wife Faithe of Fuquay-Varina, Tim Beam and wife Beth of Shelby, and Dwayne Beam and wife Stacey of Myrtle Beach; sisters, Louise McKee of Durham, Vernell Goforth Jones of Kings Mountain, and Cora Shinn and husband Ed of Salisbury; brothers, Charles Beam and wife Frances of Shelby, Carlton Beam of Shelby, and David Beam and wife Aileen of Shelby; and grandchildren, Jessica, Josh, Patrick, Lauren, Jonathan, Hannah, and Lindsey Beam.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. At other times the family will be at the home.
Celebration of Life Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elizabeth Baptist Church
Officiated By: Dr. Rit Varriale and the Rev. Jason Allen
Burial: Will follow in the church cemetery.
Funeral Home: Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150 or Elizabeth Baptist Church, c/o Volunteer Mission Fund, 301 N. Post Road, Shelby, NC 28152.

Joyce I am deeply saddened at Mikes passing All of us at Folks thought a lot of him. The last time I saw him a few weeks ago he gave me a hug and a big smile. I didn't know it would be the last time I would see him. I HAVE ALOT OF MEMORIES OF HIM
