I was just informed of Mike's passing last Sunday May 4. I had just written a letter to him a few days before on April 30.
I have not seen Mike in person for over twenty five years. I will always picture him as a well dressed, fresh faced law school graduate with a smile that would make anyone's day better.

Mike, as the obituary said, had always a joke and sense of humor, and importantly a positive view in life, like the bee looking for the flowers and honey!
Dear Gayle, Erika and I sent you a warm big hug, remembering so many moments with both of you.
We are out of the country and so cannot be with you today in the memorial in person, but we are in heart. And look forward to give you a hug in person when we are back in September.

The first time I met Mike was in a Galveston Courthouse in the Clarence Lee Brandley murder appeal hearing. I irritated him so much as I shouted questions at him challenging Mike rather rudely: He yelled back finally..."shut up". We both later apologized to each other. Years later I brought him AJ, my grad student; another wrongly accused & convicted black man Mike saw injustice as did I. He got him out & charges dropped.
