Mike Matney

     Mike Matney, 69, of Stone, KY, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Rockcastle Regional Hospital.  Mike was born August 29, 1953, in Williamson, WV, the son of the late Kermit Edward Matney and Elizabeth Pauline Burchett Matney.  He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jim Matney, William E. Matney, Clyde Payne, and two sisters, Joyce Ann Matney and Rita Cheryl Matney who both died in the tragic 1958 school bus accident in Floyd County.  Mike was a retired conductor with the railroad, and an avid musician, music lover and song writer.  He also loved the outdoors and fishing.  Survivors include one daughter, Kaci (John) New of Sidney, KY; one brother, Gary Matney of LaVernia, Texas; four grandchildren, Jade New, Rose New, Hollyn New and Ivy New; one niece, Sherry Matney of Texas; nephews, Dalton and Carson Matney of Paintsville, KY, Carey (Robin) Matney of Texas and Neil Matney of Texas; great nieces, and nephews, Clayton, McKayla, and Lacey Matney  He also leaves behind a host of other family and friends.  Visitation will be held Friday, July 28, 2023, from 1 PM until services at 2 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in the Mayo Cemetery, Prestonsburg, KY, with John New, Dalton Matney, Carson Matney, Greg Smith, and Terry Hunt serving as pallbearers.  R. E.
