Floyd Mortuary and Crematory Inc. - Lumberton Obituary

Mr. Mike Starnes, age 71, of Lumberton, passed away Friday, February 22, 2019, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice House in Whiteville. He was born on July 6, 1947, in Hickory, NC to the late William Paul Starnes and the late Fannie Keller Starnes. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, having served during the Vietnam War. Later, he was a lineman for BellSouth telephone company.


Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Herring Starnes, and a son, Joseph Michael Starnes.


He is survived by one son, Paul Starnes (Kerry) of Tabor City; one daughter, Tamara Starnes (Shane Fletcher) of Roanoke, VA; four grandchildren: Leah, Drew, Kera, and Isabelle; one brother, William Ivey Starnes of Lumberton; and one sister, Rebecca Stephens of Fairmont.


The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 24, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc. in Lumberton.


A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Gardens of Faith Cemetery with Rev. Michael Bowen officiating.

Mike was such a special man. He loved his family and oh my he adored Nancy. He was the epitome of a dedicated family man. He always treated me like one of the family and for that Im grateful and I am honored to have known him. Go rest high Uncke Mike, you've surely earned your rewards.

Mike was a great person, a very good friend and had the most agreeable look on life. He was loved and respected. He was diversified in so many areas.

Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years.
May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

Mike was a sincere man who loved his family and his work. I was blessed to have known him.

Paul, Kerry, Tamara, Big Bill, Mrs. Martha, Bill, Jr., Keally, Aunt Becky, Tracye, Ryan and all your dear loved ones, I am so very sorry and send my heartfelt condolences to all of you. My thoughts and prayers will be with each of you in the coming days. All of you will always remain near and dear to my heart.
