Millie Brown was a good friend to my mother, Ruth Turner Millichap, through Central Presbyterian Church. After my mother died when I was nine, she became one of a small number of caring women outside my own family who played an important part in my life. The May family loved having the Browns as our next door neighbors. Millie was a hard worker and always friendly. I worked at the fruit stand with her at Brown's Orchards. She thought I was a hard worker, too. :). They were unusual in that they had a monkey named Cocoa as a pet. On occasion we heard Cocoa scream while shaking her cage which was on the porch.
