Mildred Petolino Ceceri, age 82, formerly of Newark died Monday October 30, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. Mildred was born and raised in Newark where she lived for over 81 years. Mildred and her husband moved to Tinton Falls earlier this year. Mildred was a Special Education Teacher at Barringer High School in Newark for many years before her retirement in 2004.

Mildred was a member of the Red Hat Society in Nutley, a former Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Retired Teachers Chapter of the Newark Teachers Union – Local 481. She ran the Future Teachers Club at Barringer High School and was also a Bowling Coach. She was instrumental in starting the Student Child Care Center at Barringer High School, the first program of its kind in New Jersey. Mildred was extremely proud to be the first female Board Member of the Newark Public Library System appointed by then-Mayor Kenneth Gibson.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John J. Ceceri Sr.; her daughter, Mary Faith Nugiel and her husband Martin of Pt. Pleasant Beach; her 3 sons, Michael and his wife Kay Anne of Kennilworth; John J. Jr. and his wife Kathy of Schlyerville, NY; and Robert J. and his wife Lana Selman Ceceri of Hillsboro, NJ. She is also survived by her brother Frank Petolino and his wife Diana and 6 Grandchildren: Bobby Radcliffe, Alec Radcliffe, Danielle Ceceri, Michael Ceceri, Jr., John J. Ceceri III and Anthony Ceceri as well as beloved Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation hours will be held Sunday, November 5, 2017, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home 2170 Hwy. 88 Brick. Funeral Services will be offered on Monday 10:00am at the Funeral home. Entombment will follow at Restland Memorial Cemetery in East Hanover.
