Mildred Irene (Hanken) Ellenberger, 87, of Longmont, was peacefully called out of time, and into eternity with our Lord, on November 2, 2014. Mildred had been in the North Shore Medical Care facility, located in Loveland, CO, under hospice care, since this last August.
Mildred, better known as Millie, was born in Stewartville, MN, raised on the family?s farm, and graduated from high school there. Following high school, she graduated as a Registered Nurse (RN) from Kahler Hospital?s School of Nursing, in Rochester, MN. Millie married Wally Ellenberger, who was an iron miner, from northern Michigan, on April 21, 1951.
Millie?s parents sold their farm and moved to Colorado. They beckoned Wally and Millie to follow, which they did in 1952. Wally went to work at the New Jersey Zinc Company?s Gilman Mine, in Gilman, CO., and Millie was employed as a RN at the Gilman Hospital. They moved from Gilman to Climax, CO, when Wally went to work for the Climax Molybdenum Mine. When the town of Climax was moved, due to the mine expansion, they relocated to the nearby town, Leadville, CO, where Millie worked as a RN for many years at the St. Vincent Hospital.
They were living in Buena Vista, CO, at the time of Wally?s death. Later, Millie moved to Longmont, CO, to help care for her mother. She worked as a RN at the Longmont United Hospital until she retired in the early nineties. Mildred was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Longmont, CO, until her illness.
Wally and Millie had two children; Jim (Sue) Ellenberger, Craig, CO, and Bette (Al-deceased) Miller, Loveland, CO. She enjoyed her six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Millie was preceded in death by her parents, her younger brother, and her husband, Wally, who died in 1979.
A Memorial Service is planned for 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 8, 2014, Messiah Lutheran Church, 1335 Francis St., Longmont, CO 80501. Please send memorial donations to: In Memory of Mildred Ellenberger, Messiah Lutheran Church.
