Mildred E. Firth

I started taking my two young sons to visit Alexandria Manor back in Dec of 08. My youngest Luke handed out stuff animals to all the residents, at Christmas time. Mrs. Firth recieved a turtle. She was so sweet to him and even wrote him a note along with a poem written originally by her sister about a Turtle. My husband, Ken Amore was a student of Miss Firth's many years ago, and when we visited her in Alexandria Manor, she still remembered him! What a truly amazing woman she was. She never forgot our birthdays, despite her failing eyesight, and always sent a card. I was blessed to grow up with her, and with her sister, in our church congregation at First UCC for many years. Their unmistakable green car always made us smile....a character car, if we ever saw one!

Mrs. Firth was my teacher for third and fourth grade As I grew up, I kept track of her life because I thought so highly of her, even if her ring got me a few times when I wasn't paying proper attention. I never did meet Mildred but as the secretary of her church I was so very blessed to be the recipient of her beautiful, gracious & eloquent notes. Her notes of thanks to our Choir for visiting her to Christmas & Easter Carol, notes of thanks to me for some little thing I did for her & notes to the congregation for various occasions. I always felt honored & special receiving her correspondence. From her writings I could just tell what a beautiful soul she was. I KNOW she is dancing in the arms...

What a precious, astonishing lady! My mother was a student of Miss Firth's. I met her when she was 100. She and my mother exchanged letters often. After my mother's death at 84 in 2003, Miss Firth and I corresponded and my students sent her letters. My daughter, cousin and I visited her, along with Anne Ford Kline May, 2008. What a joy she was. We will always remember your smiling face. You were such a lovely lady. I remember when we came to visit you in P-burg you always were making lemon pudding and had a box of chocolates to share. We will miss you and our visits and memories.

I want to say that Mildred was one amazing person. To know her was a honor. She was alittle tough at times. But she always thought of others. She will truly be missed.

A truly beautiful person. Kind, thoughtful and appreciative. An astounding memory. Our visits with you will always be cherished memories. We will miss my relative and my neighbor down the Belvidere Pike.
