If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord, so whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. Romans 14:8
Mildred Ann Gross, 76 of Leonardtown, MD, affectionately known as ""Millie"", entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 2, 2017. Mildred was the proud daughter of the late James (Cullins) and Sarah Butler. She was born on December 30, 1940 in Oakville, MD and raised with one sister, Agnes (Sugar Pig) and four brothers, David, Francis (Figgy) and deceased brothers, Rudolph "Pete" (Aurelia Marshall) and James, Jr. (Jitter) Butler. Mildred attended St. Joseph's Colored Grade School in Morganza, MD and Banneker High School in Loveville, MD.
She had a very successful career and was employed by Safeway for over 35 years working in the Lexington Park and LaPlata stores. In 2005, Mildred retired from Safeway as a cashier.
We recall Mildred's faith in God and the fond moments we have shared with her. Known for her spiritual awareness, caring spirit, fun nature, beautiful smile, a peace maker, Mildred was a pillar of strength and wisdom to others and specifically to family. If you called her on the phone, she would always ask what time is it. That meant her soap operas, Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, were coming on and don't bother her. Every Tuesday Mildred and Dorothy ""Betty Boo"" Goldring could not wait to watch If Loving You is Wrong and The Haves and the Have Nots. That also meant don't bother her at that time. She enjoyed watching her cooking shows and had become a great cook. Her favorite pastime was traveling, playing the slots, listening to old school music and spending Sundays after church at her niece, Angie and her husband Brian's house, to play a game of pitch. Also, Mildred was a devoted class mate who looked forward to assisting with the class reunions for the 1958 graduating class. You could depend on her to sell a maximum amount of tickets and spread the word by phone and in person. Mildred was a person that you could not help but love and respect.
Mildred is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Gross, of Bryantown, MD and Leslie Gross, of Leonardtown, MD; one son, Donald Gross, Sr. (Tashorey), of Lexington Park, MD; three sisters, Agnes Mason, Barbara Neale and Mary Holton; two brothers, David Butler, Sr. (Charlene) and Francis Butler (Evelyn), all of Leonardtown, MD; three grandsons, Marcus Gross, of Leonardtown, MD, Ronald (Ronnie) Whitmire, of Denver, CO and Donald (DJ) Gross, Jr.; one Godchild, Kimberly Jones, of Springfield, VA; two devoted special mother figures, since the passing of her mother, Mrs. Dorothy Fenwick and Mrs. Vincena Dickerson, , as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends. If we tried to name all of them, there would not be enough paper.
""We have lost a Mother, a Sister, and Aunt and a Special Friend but she will be always be remembered as our HERO"".
Family and friends will unite on Friday, November 10, 2017 for visitation at 9 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 29119 Point Lookout Road, Morganza, MD 20660. Interment to follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen, MD.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Hold dear the memories that you have of your mother and sister. Those memories will sustain you during this difficult time.

Stephanie, Leslie and Jerry:
Although she's gone, you're not alone and never shall be. For the precious memories of the bond you shared will never depart from thee. Mildred's love surpassed the ups and downs and helped you along the way. The same love will give you strength to manage this loss each day.
On your mind and in your heart, your Mom, will forever be. For just as much as she is a part of you, You were a part of she!
May God bless you during this difficult time.

Today is both a sad day and a happy day, sad because I have lost my sister, my friend, but happy because she has reached her final destination in life and is now united with her parents, brothers, and with the Lord and Savior.
Mildred, you have always given us your strength that we needed to carry on. You will be missed, but never forgotten. Love you sis forever until we meet again.
