Mirdza Balas Obituary

Balas, Mirdza
Mirdza Sneberg Balas, 91, passed away December, 19, 2015 in Greenwich Hospital. Mirdza grew up in Latvia and came to the United States to attend the University of Minnesota where she earned a masters degree in Library Science and married her late husband William Balas. She spent most of her adult life in Sebastopol, California where she worked as a dedicated head branch librarian for the Sebastopol library and a beloved friend to so many. She moved to Greenwich 7 years ago to be close to her daughter Anne's family and we have cherished our time with her.
Mirdza has always been the most, loving, caring, generous, spiritual and spirited wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her name means Twinkle in Latvian and she has truly brought a twinkle to everyone around her and been an inspiration and role model for her children and grandchildren who dearly love her.
Mirdza is survived by her daughter Anne DeNaut, son Paul Balas, son in law Jim DeNaut , grandchildren Lauren, Jamie, Jack and Courtney DeNaut and Nicole Balas as well as siblings Raita Tutins, Val Sneberg and Nora Skunstina. Mirdza will remain in all of our hearts and memories forever and will be dearly missed. A private service will be held at Christ Church in Greenwich to celebrate her life and another in Sebastopol, California.
