Byles Memorial Home - New London Obituary

Misty Waldron Stevens, 65, of Groton, formerly of Norwich, a loving wife and mother died peacefully early morning Monday February 1, 2021 at home surrounded by her  family and friends after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Misty was born on September 20, 1955 in New London, CT. She was the oldest child of Lorraine and Paul Waldron, who predeceased her. Misty grew up in Groton along with her brother Shawn and graduated from Robert E Fitch Sr High School in 1973.

Everyone who knew her, loved her. Known for her infectious smile, her kind heart, her positivity, her adventuresome spirit, her affection for all animals especially cats, her collection of pigs,  and her love of karaoke and camping.  Misty was everyone’s friend.

Forever the crafter, she was always coming up with making new creations and sharing with all. Her most famous of crafts are her crochet crazy curl hats, not only did everyone in her circle wear them, she made dozens and would distribute them to patients on her chemo treatment days. Misty was a quick learner, she recently taught herself to paint on canvas and made eco shopping bags from ordinary plastic bags. A passion for sewing, she loved to make beautiful and detailed quilts.

Her memories will remain forever in the hearts to all that loved her especially her husband of 32 years, Craig Stevens of Groton and Norwich, sons Kyle Stevens and Josh Stevens both of Groton; her brother Shawn Waldron and his wife Ginger; her nieces, Kelsey Aldana (Kris) and their children; Maggie Kachel (Brandon); and a host of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.

A special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston MA

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00am Saturday February 6, 2021 at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich CT.  COVID protocol of masks and social distancing will be required.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Misty’s memory to the Connecticut Humane Society, 169 Old Colchester Road, Quaker Hill, CT 06375

Not sure what to say?

"Good friends care for each other, close friends understand each other, but true friends stay forever beyond words, beyond distance, beyond time." Anonymous

There is another quote I'd like to share because Misty embraced it in her life:
"Trust in the magic flowing through your heart to your hands." Anonymous

I write in memory of our very, very old friendship. I remember your purple room at Jupiter Point; your love of water fun; and, your infectious spirit.

The sea is deeply saddened,
For it has lost its Mistresses gaze as it works its way to shore.
Misty be her name,
Say it out loud.
To Craig, Kyle and Josh, I bid you soft, quiet, comfort and peace.
Go in love my funny, dear, sweet friend

Misty, although technically my daughter-in-law, was more of a daughter to me. We had so much fun gardening, cooking, sewing and shopping. Her warm heart and endearing smile made me and everyone around her feel loved and appreciated. Even though family and friends came first, a genuine love of animals was obvious. Her kindness was evident to all who knew her. Her laughter was infectious and I will miss spending time with her more than anything. Craig, Kyle and Josh my heart goes out to you,...

My thoughts and prayers go out to Craig, his sons, and the rest of the family. I was fortunate enough to have met Misty a few times when Craig bought her to our workplace. I could tell from the way Craig often talked about Misty how much they were in love and it clearly came through even in those brief times that I spoke with her. May God Bless you all and take care of you as well.

Oh Misty I will miss our Facebook friendship. Rest in peace. We had so much fun as kids growing up and playing around Eastern Point. My prayers for the family. GOD BLESS.

My dear friend Misty Waldron Stevens you are forever missed your gone but not forgotten I love you may you rest in peace in Paradise in Heaven you're our most great Angel up above❤

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will forever treasure all our memories of camping..fires and just our inner circle get togethers. Also all the things made by you. We will love you and miss you always.

Misty was definitely one of those people who, when you met her, you immediately felt like you had known her your whole life! We had the pleasure of meeting her, doing one of the things she loved most, karaoke! As a local KJ, I had a certain group of people who were like family to me and I always looked forward to seeing. Misty and Craig were part of that karaoke family and I wish that I had the opportunity to hear her sing once more! I can't remember ever not seeing a smile on her face. She...

Misty a beautiful person inside and out. I will miss you terribly. We had so many laughs over the years. RIP
