Avery Thrasher was a great educator and leader, not only at WEHS where he excelled as principal, but also in his church and community. As my principal, he ALWAYS supported me and was willing to consider any ideas and suggestions I had for my classes. He was open-minded, fair, and always interested in the lives of his students---and teachers! A better man than Avery Thrasher is rare. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace, my friend.

Mr. Thrasher was a good man. He took an active interest in the lives of all the students at West End. He was an example of what a principal should be. He will be missed.

Mr. Thrasher was a good man. What made him an example to all educators is the fact that he took an active interest in the lives of the students of West End. He will be missed.

He was always on my case. He would say "You can do better, you can do more,I want you to set good example". His door was always open if you needed to talk him. He is one of the many educators that made WEHS such a gem during the years I was there. I pray it is still that way. I'm a better person for knowing Avery Thrasher.

Mr. Thrasher was a precious man and greatly adored by my entire family. I mentioned him just last week to my coworkers, telling them that he attended EVERY band competition, concert, and chorale that we were involved in. He joined us on every band trip and was just a lovely gentleman. To have known Mr. Thrasher (even at 51 years of age I cannot call him by his first name) was to have known a true Godly southern gentleman. Jesus must have needed a great fellow the day we lost him.

Mr. Thrasher will be greatly missed. Altoona Second Baptist School will miss him at our programs he always enjoyed them.Tonya and Patrickwe love you and are praying for you and family.
