Not sure what to say?

Keith... it's been nearly thirty-five years since we played wiffleball in the street or shot baskets in your driveway together as childhood friends and it's been long overdue since we've talked; but i wanted to send my heartfelt condolences to you and your family upon learning of the passing of your father. My memories of him as a kid were that of being the "cool" dad in the neighborhood and I can still hear his infectious laugh as he watched "All In The Family." I lost my father in 2002 and...

I don't know Mr. Van Yahres, but, After reading about his life works! We have lost a great man.May God Bless you All doing your grief.

We all have been made better by knowing Mitch. About 15 years ago, I had an emergency bypass operation; he phoned me very early in my recovery to share his experiences and hope with me. We laughed together and I began to move away from the fear and depression. He was invaluable to me at that time!

My love and thoughts go to all his friends and family!

Mitch was an inspiration to me as he was to many others in the Charlottesville area and beyond. His human touch was evident in all he did. His was a life well lived - may he rest in peace.

Betty & family,
The world is a better place because Van was a part of it. I know that he will be sorely missed by EVERYONE (how many people could really have that statement be true?). I loved his obituary--of course, I am probably your most liberal relative--the one who agreed with everything he stood for. Blessings to all of you!

To the entire family,
It has been one of the greatest experiences in my life and my son's as well, to have spent one of life's most important gifts with you. The gift of time! As you have shared your time with me I began to see more inviting smiles, hugs and handshakes. When I met Mitch I could see where a true essence of family had originated and developed through each one of you. Thanks for supporting Mitch as a family to help make Charlotettesville a better place to call home. Thanks...

My deepest sympathies to the family. What a nice man. I've known him all my life and I don't remember any important function (especially weddings) connected with my family that he didn't attend. I remember his smile, sense of humor, forthrightness, loyalty to family and friends -- even those lucky enough to be considered his "adopted" family. He was never too "big" or busy to speak -- even when he became a "politican". I'm sure my Dad is happy to be with his friend again and Heaven is all...

Dear Beth and Family,

I was so saddened to hear of your father's passing. I have many fond memories of you and I as schoolmates of many years and as great and fast friends. I remember both your mom and your dad as wonderful people who always made me feel comfortable and welcome in your home. Your dad did so much for the city he loved and I know that he will be truly missed, not only for his positive impact, but for the joyful and caring person he was. His influence, legacy and...
