'Some Kind of Moves'
When Moises Rivas first laid eyes on Elizabeth, it was at a local beauty pageant in Queens, and he was the lead singer of the band. He was smitten, and made a $50 bet with another band member that he would get her to go out with him.
"When he finished singing he came down from the stage and started talking to me," Elizabeth recalled. "He asked for my phone number. Two weeks later we were going out, and we were still together six years later."
Moises Rivas had dreams, big ones. He imbibed life in big gulps. And he went after want he wanted. Of course he got the girl, and he and Elizabeth married and had two children, Moises Jr., 4, and Moesha, 2. A 29- year-old immigrant from Ecuador, he wanted to be the next Emeril, so he took a job as a chef at Windows on the World. He also wanted to be the next Ricky Martin, so he wrote songs and became lead singer for an up-and-coming band that recorded a CD.
"And, boy, he knew how to dance," his wife said. "He had some kind of moves. He could attract any girl. He was so-o-o cute. I just wish he could come back. I wish he was with me right now. It's the only thing I wish." There was another woman ‹ his mother in Ecuador. "She couldn't see him for 10 years because he was in New York, and then when she came up here after Sept. 11, she couldn't see him either," Elizabeth said.

I never met Moises N. Rivas. However, I am a Rivas myself. I read his bio and I was moved. He represents what could have happened to anyone of us. He had dreams, he had desirs, he had hope for the future. May he RIP. My sympathy to his family.

even though I never knew Moises Rivas I felt I have lost a family member, therefore prehaps a park should be named in his honer, we chilians mourned the lost of one of our "Hermanos" (brothers in Spanish)'.

As I stitched your name on the memorial that I am doing for all of the victims, I prayed for you and your family. Please know that your death was not in vain. We will always remember. God Bless.
