Lorne and Sons Funeral Home - Delray Beach Obituary

Mona Elizabeth (Scully) Wolter, age 81, of Gulf Stream, FL passed away on Monday, December 23rd, 2024, at her home, following a lengthy illness.  Mona was born November 10, 1943, in Queens, NY.   The daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Scully, she was raised in Floral Park, NY.  She graduated from St. Pascal Baylon High School in 1961 and then obtained a degree in fashion merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.  In those exciting, heady days in NYC, Mona did modeling work, then got her dream job as a buyer for Bergdorf Goodman in New York.  Perks of that position included trips around the country and overseas, picking clothing lines and designers to feature at Bergdorf's, notably including a stint in Paris with designer Halston.

Her life changed course upon meeting her future husband James 'Jim' Garret Wolter in the Hamptons; they famously first spoke when she ejected Jim from her summer share after a raucous party.  Marriage in 1968 and a series of moves following Jim's career with Volkswagen of America followed, including homes in Massachusetts, New Jersey (twice), Maryland (three times!), Michigan, and finally southern Florida, where they relocated in 1993.  Son Keith Garret Wolter was born in 1970, and daughter Ashley Elizabeth Wolter followed in 1976.  As part of Jim's job in sales & marketing for VW, Jim and Mona travelled the world together - China, Australia, Germany and Bali were but a few highlights - and attended multiple Olympic Games.  After moving to Florida, Mona resumed a career in fashion retail, working for Bloomingdale’s, and then for several years at Emanual Ungaro in Palm Beach until its closure in 2009.

Her beloved husband Jim predeceased Mona in 2005.  Her later years were spent enjoying family and friends; socializing at the Gulf Stream Bath and Tennis and St. Andrews Clubs; traveling to Ireland, Africa, Italy, Southeast Asia, and beyond; and perfecting her bridge and canasta games.  Mona's only sibling, Lorraine Bill, passed in 2023.  Mona and Jim's twin children John and Courtney Wolter predeceased them, following their premature birth in 1983.

She is survived by her children and their families: Drs. Keith and Jill Wolter of Little Rock, AR, with daughter Fiona and son Rhys; and Ashley Dickinson and her daughters Tyndall, Riley and Gray, and son Haskell, who have lived with and cared for Mona in Gulf Stream, FL these past few years.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 840 George Bush Blvd., Delray Beach, FL.

A lovely person Prayers for her & her family. Ed Casey. St Pascal High School

I love you and miss you so so SO much mom.

Sending you all love and prayers. I have very fond memories of hanging out on University laughing and just being silly and your mom was always right in the middle of it! I always think of her bob hair and her chic outfits! May she rest in peace and you all take comfort that she is no longer suffering.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.
