Not sure what to say?

Morgan was my composition teacher during my graduate studies at U. of Ill. in `74-`75. He was a great mentor and friend; we shared some wonderful times and his presence is sorely missed. God bless you Morgan!

Morgan Powell was my favorite and most influential teacher at U of I. He was fair, funny, which was important as I had his theory class for 2 years at 7:30 am, and profound in so many ways. He was kind but clear that if you couldn´t understand how music worked you might want to find another life path. He was a brilliant trombonist and a low-key philosopher. I am ever grateful for what he taught me about music and life.

Morgan and I were Leon Breeden's first graduate assistants in the NT Lab Band program when Leon took over from Gene Hall. Morgan was certainly one of the best human beings I have known. We shared many things including our interest in writing music. He is missed. Earle Dhus

I first met Morgan when I was a junior in high school and he was finishing student teaching at Haltom Jr. High. My friend, Jimmy Mann organized an afternoon arranging class with Morgan after school. He, Ted Bowman and I arrived late as we had gone to music store for manuscript paper. The other guys didn't have any and the next week it was jusst us 3. During my senior year we three would drive up to Denton for arranging lessons. In my sophomore year, Morgan exposed me to Webern and Berg...

Thank you, Morgan, for giving me/us courage to try new things. Rest in peace.

Morgan was once married to my sister Jane. They had two beautiful daughters, Lisa and Adriane. I have many fun and wonderful of him!

Sorry to her about Morgan's passing. I first met him at the Kenton clinics at MSU when I was in high school and he was our theory instructor. When I was at the U of I, he was in the 2nd Jazz band as a co-leader and player. I later played with him in the Jazz Band on our European tour. One evening (in Sweden I believe) he dressed up in a Chef's outfit and brought the house down! I saw him many times when my brother-in-law Jim Staley and the Ramblers were at Ragdale. I'm going to miss his...
