I was fortunate to have been a student when Moritz taught Architecture at the University of Idaho. And again, when I apprenticed with him in Spokane during the late 1960´s - the days of t-squares, triangles and drafting boards. That time included several residential projects and the Civic Theater. I remember the quiet, deliberate, confidence he combined with humor and humanity. Later in my career, I frequently asked him for advice which he readily gave. The last time I saw him, I am sad...

Moritz was one of my favorite people in my life. We discussed architecture and worked together as he designed the UU chapel and proposed expansion. We talked about hiking in the mountains, midcentury modern, and flowers during walks in Lincoln Park. We spent time together as he learned to use computers. He had a wonderful active mind and was interested in learning about everything, even in his last years. He usually was reading when I visited him. I will miss him greatly as will many...
