Morris Edward Nordin
October 5, 1931 – March 16, 2026
With heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of their beloved father, Morris Nordin, on March 16, 2026, at the age of 94 years.
Morris was born on October 5, 1931, to Emil and Erika Nordin on the family farm homestead. He was the ninth of ten children—growing up with six older brothers who kept him busy with farm chores and boyhood antics, and two older sisters who did their best to keep him in line. As the youngest boy, he was known to have enjoyed a little extra spoiling along the way.
He attended Dydland School through Grade 8, but the pull of farming—and his father’s new tractor—proved too strong. Leaving school behind, he became his father’s right-hand man, learning the ins and outs of farming through hard work and hands-on experience.
In time, Morris purchased the family farm and married the love of his life, Bernadine Pelletier. Together, they built a life rooted in family, dedication, and resilience, raising their children on the same land he had known his whole life. There always were animals on the farm from cows, pigs, sheep, geese, chickens ,dogs and cats . But, horses were the most highly rated, they loved their horses. Once he could no longer maintain them , dad was more than thrilled to watch his daughters ride and compete with their own beautiful and well trained horses.
To support the farm, Morris spent several winters logging in Prince George, BC, and later worked in highway construction for George Wilson. No matter where he worked, farming remained his true passion.
Morris had a special talent for restoring John Deere tractors—transforming forgotten, rusted relics pulled from the bush into beautifully running green machines. Many of these were proudly displayed or sold over the years. Alongside Bernadine, he also enjoyed travelling to visit children and grandchildren, attending auction sales, and turning simple materials into remarkable creations—from willow furniture to inventive welded pieces. Some of his projects even found their way into Ducks Unlimited silent auctions.
After Bernadine’s passing in 2013, Morris moved from the farm he had called home all his life to Buchanan. Even then, his connection to the land never faded. He continued driving until November of this past year, keeping a close eye on the seasons—sharing updates on spring runoff, seeding progress, and harvest yields. He was, truly, a farmer to the very end.
Morris was known for his incredible memory, recalling names and stories from decades past with remarkable detail. In later years, his stories may have grown a little more colourful—but with no one left to challenge him, they were always enjoyed just the same.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Bernadine, infant son Brian, his brothers Philip (Norma), Lawrence (Fay), Adolph (Dorothy), Carl (Gladys), Howard (Elsie), and Henry and his sisters Myrtle (Leslie) Harwood and Laura (Jack) Bennett.
Morris will be lovingly remembered by his children: Theresa (Jerry) Kopeck, Allan (Colleen) Nordin, Karen (Garth Bode) Nordin, and Denise Nordin-MacDonald; his grandchildren: Amber (Jeff) Hughes, Brett (Shawntel) Kopeck, Reece (Andrea) Wionzek, Madison MacDonald, Jim (Louise) McDougald, Angela (Dave) Ritchie, and Alexandra (Shawn) Baumgarten; as well as 12 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister Irene (Derk) Bekkering, and his dear friends Ross and Phyllis of Canora.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sunrise Homecare and Preeceville Long Term Care for the compassion and care they showed Morris.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Donations in memory of Morris may be made to the Elim Lutheran Cemetery in Buchanan.
