Morteza YAHYAVI Obituary

YAHYAVI, Morteza K. Aug. 10, 1918-Aug. 2, 2012 Morteza K. Yahyavi peacefully slipped into the Unknown on August 22012 at his home in Oceanside, California with his wife and daughter at his side. Mr. Yahyavi came to the U.S. in 1950 as the first Fulbright Scholar from Iran. He later was recruited by U.S.I.A. as a writer/broadcaster at the Voice of America in Washington, D.C. He originated the Persian/Dari Service in 1979 with a staff of four, growing it to 45, and was fluent in many languages including English, Farsi and French. As a young man, Mr. Yahyavi wrote novels, short stories, literary essays and articles in Farsi and translated the official Persian language version of Hemingway's Old Man and the Sea. At one time he would have had articles under his byline in many Persian newspapers and journals on any given day. Mr. Yahyavi's interests included politics, nature, literature, international affairs, astronomy and reading, but at heart he was a gardener. When he retired in 1983 he could mostly be found tending the flowers in his garden until age intervened. He is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Roxanne Wightman and husband Doug, son Rene Eram and wife Linda, grandson Braden, and a large and loving extended family. Memorial Service to be announced.

Mor was a huge man in a tiny package, a superior intellect that loved lifes simplest things, a man of global dimensions that kept his loved ones, friends and family close by, like a mother hen with her chicks. When he moved, they all moved. If one word could describe such a man, I would say " fullness" He lived to capacity, loved to capacity, and stayed on this earth as long as any man could. Here's to you Morteza. I raise my cup in your honor and say Job Well Done! I will miss your laughter.

Carol and Family,

Words can not express our feeling for all of you. Morteza was always so special to all of my family / children. We will surely miss him. I will forever cherish the pictures of you and Morteza that I have and remember he did love his gardens. Friend for ever, Pat Straight and family

No words can describe the void that's in our hearts. There will never be another man like him....NEVER! When you hear a man with a heart of gold... well he truly did, his sense of humor, his generosity, his unconditional love was like no other. My sincere condolences to my dear beloved Carol, Roxanne and Rene....I'm so sorry, may god give you strength and keep you strong.

Dearest Morteza,
Your intellect, counsel and guidance will be sorely missed. Our many hours of discussing current events, politics, literature and religion will forever be embedded in my mind. Although I know we will meet again in the hereafter, your learned soul is so far advanced, mine will take an eternity to catch up with you. God bless you. You are always in our prayers.
