J.W. Williams Funeral Home, Inc. - Cordele Obituary

Mr. Hollis Douglas, Sr., of 1420 Norris Street, Americus, Georgia, died Friday, September 26, 2025, at his residence.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary of the Antioch Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery in Americus, Georgia.

Mr. Hollis Douglas, Sr., was born in  Americus, Georgia, on October 9, 1943, to the parentage of the late Rufus Douglas and the late Christine Ingram. Hollis was the oldest of 16 children and received his education in the public schools of Sumter County. He married the love of his life, Mary Lee Wilkerson Douglas, with whom he shared 58 beautiful years of marriage.

At an early age, Hollis joined Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church. He was a role model for his siblings, cousins, and friends. He displayed a strong sense of responsibility from the start, working hard to help provide for his mother and siblings and,   later, for his wife and children.

He dedicated more than 30 years of service to places such as the Tog Shop, Horne’s Walgreens, the Country Club, and Clinic Drug Store, while also sharing his talents as a skilled carpenter, painter, and bartender. Hollis began delivering medicine on a bicycle, then graduated to a motorcycle, and eventually a car—an enduring demonstration of his persistence and determination. His dedication and unwavering work ethic were evident in every aspect of his life. Hollis will be remembered for his loyalty to his family and community. He found joy in spending time with loved ones and friends, and his legacy will live on in the many lives he touched with his skills, wisdom, and knowledge.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Mr. Edward Ingram, Mr. Curtis Ingram, Mr. Carl Ingram, Mr. Horace Munson, Mr. Gregory Douglas, and Ms. Yvonne Ingram Thompson and one grandson Mr. Brandon Kentrell Douglas.

Left to cherish his memories are his three children and his care givers: Hollis Jr. (Pam) Douglas, Arthur (Pam) Douglas, and Tricia (Dexter) Cladd all of Americus, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Holli (fiancé Jay) Douglas of Grayson, Georgia, Mikal Douglas of Roswell, Georgia, Chaz Douglas, JaColby Douglas, and Asia Cladd all of Columbus, Georgia, Aikell Ivory of Douglasville, Georgia, Andrienne Douglas and Marcus Douglas both of Americus, Georgia; four great grands: Delylah, Hannah, Scarlett, and Maverick; his brothers/sisters: Rita Ingram of  Americus, Georgia, Sherrand (Bernard) Manigault of Brandywine, Maryland, Patricia (Joseph) Spitzley of Townville, South Carolina, Lonnie Munson and Terrell (Edith) Ingram all of Americus, Georgia, Joe (Karen) Ingram of Inglewood, California, Keith (Mae) Munson of Conyers, Georgia, Carl (Beatrice) Douglas, of Killeen, Texas, and James (Paula) Douglas of Detroit, Michigan; one sister in law, Elizabeth Wilkerson of Americus, Georgia, his devoted nieces: Betty (Thomas) Bell, Cathy Wilkerson, and Terri (Darrius) Wooden, his godson Keelan Barkley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, and friends also survive.
