United States Army Veteran, Mr. James Mitchell Whitehead of 29 Oscar Bembry Road, Hawkinsville, Georgia died Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at the Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
The graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 6:00 PM at the Big Poplar Spring Church Cemetery in Unadilla, Georgia. Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
James Mitchell Whitehead was born in Unadilla, Georgia on October 28, 1949. He was born to Christopher Columbus Whitehead and Jacie Brown Whitehead.
He was a graduate of the Vienna High and Industrial School in Vienna, Georgia. After graduation he was drafted into the Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. James also attended Middle Georgia State University and Fort Valley State University.
He confessed hope in Christ and united with the Big Poplar Spring Baptist Church. He served faithfully as a Trustee of the church.
For over 20 years he was employed by Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer Company. He also worked for the State of Georgia for over 10 years.
On September 2, 2006 he married the “Love of his Life,” Ms. Lechina Baker. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Always community minded, James was a leader of the community and believed in helping wherever he could. He served as Vice President of the Pulaski County NAACP and was also a Board Member of the Housing Authority.
On Tuesday, July 27, 2021 his earthly journey came to a peaceful end. James was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Ardelia W. Nelson, Johnnie M. Bolden, and Queen Ester W. Brazeau; his brothers, Thoams F. Whitehead, Christopher C. Whitehead, Jr., Marion McArthur Whitehead, and Jimmie Lee Whitehead.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Lechina B. Whitehead of Hawkinsville, Georgia; his children, Ykeisha (Jarvis) Tinsley of Warner Robins, Georgia, Gaquan Watkins of Tifton, Georgia, Latrell McBurse of Montezuma, Georgia, Lacorey Whitehead of Atlanta, Georgia, Dylan Whitehead of Charlotte, North Carolina, James Whitehead of Miami, Florida, and Rashad Whitehead of Hawkinsville, Georgia; his grandchildren, Cali, Uri, Xilo, Ivery’ana, Javarion, Monica, Jaryan, and Jerkhelsyei; his sisters, Anell (Arthur) McWhite of Hartford, Connecticut and Grace (Clarence) Hyde of Atlanta, Georgia; his father-in-law, Theodis Mann of Hawkinsville, Georgia; his sister-in-law, Cathy Dinkins (Sean Rique); his brothers-in-law, Ashley (Sonia) Baker of Houston, Texas, Rickey (Debra) Johnson of Perry, Georgia, Steven Baker and Timothy Mann both of Hawkinsville, Georgia; his aunt-in-law and uncle-in-law, Mary Mann of Jacksonville, Florida and Bobby (Linda) Mann of Pompano Beach, Florida; a host of nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; many cousins, to include a special cousin, Mildred W. Anderson of Warner Robins, Georgia; a host of friends, to include Mart Sikes of Hawkinsville, Georgia, Charles Denard, and Reverend Obbie Mann of Eastman, Georgia.
