Funeral Services will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Phillips Temple CME Church. Burial to follow at Porterdale Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, November 29, 2024 from 3:00 pm unit 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Alex Scott, Jr., also known as "Scotty", was born May 30, 1945 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Alexander Scott, Sr. and Mary Jane Jackson Jakes. He was reared into adulthood by his stepfather Nimrod Jakes, Jr., who also preceded him in death. He entered into Eternal Rest on Tuesday, November 19 2024.
Alex who was affectionately nicknamed Merkitrodd was taught an early age the importance of Christianity and joined the Phillips Temple CME Church. He later moved to Birmingham, Alabama and joined Thirgood Memorial CME Church.
Alex's education began at Mother Mary Mission School in Phenix City, Alabama and graduated South Girard High School class of 1963 "Mighty Bulldogs." He continued his education at Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama and Bessemer Technical College with a degree in Heating and Air Conditioner services. He was a jack of many trades from being a truck driver, master carpenter to a master HVAC mechanic. He was always there to help anyone who needed his assistance.
During his studies in Birmingham, he met and married the mother of his children Julia Mae Pearson Scott (deceased) to whom three beautiful daughters were born. He later married Edna Louise Scott and helped to raise his four stepchildren.
In addition to his three parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Lamar Jakes; two sisters, Singyet "Toya" Alexander and Gwendolyn Scott Joseph; grandparents, Nicholas and Georgia Scott, Marshall and Carrie Jackson; uncles, Curtis Scott, Albert Scott, Marshall Jackson, Jr.; aunts, Mildred Willis, Geraldine Mitchell, Lula Mae Jackson and Earlene Jackson.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Edna Louise Scott; three daughters, Cheryl D. Scott Hawk of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Georgette Marie Scott and Alexandria Scott, both of Raleigh, North Carolina; two grandsons, Isaiah Hawk and Alexander Scott III “Tre”, both of Raleigh, North Carolina; three sisters, Betty Carolyn Scott of Champagne, Illinois, Pattie Jakes and Sharon Faye Jakes, both of Phenix City, Alabama; three brothers, Terry (Diann) Jakes, Shawon (Deborah) Jakes and Curtis Jakes; god-children, Linda Witherspoon (Jerry), Brenda McElroy, Jacqueline Hale, and Wilson Hale, Jr. (Valerie); several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and loved ones.
