Mr. Dewayne “Bubba” Johnson
was born on November 24, 1977 in Bamberg, South Carolina to Herbert and Helen Sumpter. He gained his wings on November 1, 2024 at his residence.

He grew up in the Bowman and Pineville communities. He attended Cross High School and graduated from Bethune Bowman High School in 1997.  Bubba was well known for his phenomenal basketball skills – “Fab 5.”  Many didn’t know he was also an amazing artist who could draw anything he laid eyes on. He was employed by different companies. His last employer was PPM until his health failed.

Bubba was a devoted son, brother to many and a very active father to his children.

He was preceded in death by: his brother Ruddy W. Sumpter, grandparents, Carrie Mae Johnson, Ulysees (Genevieve) Huggins and Wilbert and Minnie Lee Sumpter

To cherish his cool, gentle and funny spirit, he leaves: his children, Fatima (Latarsha) Johnson, Dewayne D, Shaniyah H. Johnson and Trayvon (Syreeta) Walters; his parents Herbert Sumpter and Helen (Joseph Simmons) Sumpter; his sisters, Monica R. Sumpter, Kristal Johnson, Candiss Johnson, Jericka Johnson and Jessica Johnson; his brother, Herbert Abraham, a host of Johnson, Huggins and Sumpter aunts and uncles; his step siblings, Carol Simmons, Albertha Simmons, Cathy Simmons, Joseph Simmons, Jr. and Shecretia Simmons and a host of other relatives and friends.
