Mr. Floyd Noah Goar was born on May 31,1940 to Thomas and Lucille Goar in the community of Improve, MS. On the morning of August 17, 2023 with his wife and daughters by his side, Floyd Goar went to be with His Lord and Savior. His family waits with saddened and joyful hearts that they will meet him in glory, made complete and whole as promised by our God.

Floyd Goar resided in the small Mississippi town of Richton for almost six decades. Before moving to Richton he attended Pearl River Community College and Mississippi State University where he earned Bachelor and Masters degrees in Education and was a
dedicated agriculture teacher at Richton High School for thirty-one years where he enjoyed nurturing his Future Farmer of America young men and women. He taught his trade with hands-on learning and offered students memorable experiences. After retirement from public school in 1993, Mr. Goar was employed by the USDA in the Lamar County Soil and Conservation District. He also worked alongside his father and mother in-law, Wilson and Teedee Falgout, in the family popcorn business for several years.

Floyd’s only known hobby was hard work as he served in many roles for the close community of Richton. He was known as the unofficial town animal doctor, welder, Richton Rebel athletics bus driver, farming expert, parade float and prom sponsor, and jack of all trades. He spent early mornings in his garden trying his hand with new breeds of fruits and vegetables and shared his harvest with others each season. He loved listening to Gaither music, wearing overalls, eating greens and cornbread, and traveling for weekend visits to the Goar home place. He especially enjoyed time with his brother, Martin, as they worked together taking care of the family farm. Mr. Goar lived a long, full, beautiful life.

Mr. Goar was given the honor of Deacon Emeritus from First Baptist Church of Richton in 2018.  Floyd loved and served his church family and the Golden Circle Sunday School class taught most recently by his long time friend Elaine Moser. He could be found taking care of church building needs, serving on mission trips around the community, country and world, studying and teaching the Bible, and creating and building sets for children’s ministry and choir programs. He was devoted to the people of God and has especially felt loved and comforted by his church family and pastor.

Floyd Goar is survived by his wife of 50 golden years, Shirley Lorraine Falgout Goar of Greenville, MS; daughters, Kaylee Goar Wade (Jason) of Petal and Karrah Lucille Goar of Richton. He was the best Pop to his three grandchildren, Loren, Taylor, and Lyndsey Wade.  His surviving siblings are Mavis Goar Smith, Kenneth Goar (Marty), and Martin Goar; his brother-in-law, Jack Falgout (Vernell); sister-in-law, Dr. Sandra Burford (Bill); 38 nieces and nephews, 69 great nieces and nephews, 43 great-great nieces and nephews and 3 great-great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Lafatte Goar, mother, Lela Lucille Broom Goar of Improve, MS, sisters, Hazel Goar Hutson (Alton), Anna Laura Goar Miller (Talmadge), and Vivian Goar Ramshur (Murphy), three nieces and nephews, one great nephew, and one great-great relative.

Mr. Goar was a man that loved his God, his family, and his community. His legacy will certainly live on through the many lives he touched.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Richton. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Officiating the service will be Dr. Jason Wade and Reverend Josh Dunn, pastor at FBC Richton. Burial will follow at the Sunset Cemetery in Richton.

Ministering and giving to children was important to Mr. Goar. If any donations are made in his memory, please consider giving to the Baptist Children’s Village, Homes of Hope for Children, or the Good Shepherd Children’s Home in Honduras. To God be the Glory, great things He has done.

Not sure what to say?

Richton lost a good one the day the Lord called him home. Terry and I have been married 50 yrs. and he still talks about things they did while he was their teacher. He talked slow and walked slow, but I think he could get more work done in a day than most people can in a week!!

Mr. Goar was one of a kind. That’s a great testimony for the man he was. Terry and I have been married 50 yrs this December. He still tells funny stories of things that went on in his classes. He will always be missed by his family and friends.

So sorry to hear of Floyd's passing. Floyd was my first cousin and my visits to Sumrall in the summers from the gulf coast hold wonderful memories because he always made sure I enjoyed visits. Prayers and condolences for his family. ,
