Hunter Lane Vanderslice, 29, of Ellisville, MS, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.

Hunter was born on September 24, 1991, in Laurel, MS and was a 2010 graduate of South Jones High School in Ellisville. He found his career in the oilfield but found his peace on the water. He loved spending as much time as possible at the beach, lake or on a river.

Born with a megawatt smile, a cow-lick he eventually tamed and a charisma that drew you in like a moth to a flame. Hunter looked the part of a quintessential Southern boy. But, his witty sense of humor, devotion to family and compassionate, kind, fun-loving demeanor easily set him apart.

Like most Southern boys, he loved cookouts, fishing and hanging out with friends. Hunter cared about people and could always be counted on to lift a friend’s spirits when they were low. He brightened a room just walking into it, and he will forever be missed.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Michelle and Ricky Skipper of Ellisville; sister, Lauren Wade (Jeremy); nephew, Drew Wade; niece, Emmalyn Wade all of Ellisville; father, Mikel Vanderslice of Tupelo, MS; uncle, Mark Coats (Cynthia) of Louin, MS; his BEST four-legged friend, Belle and a host of additional family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Shelly Coats of Louin and grandfather, Fred Coats of Gitano, MS.

A memorial service honoring his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Hattiesburg Community Church. A visitation will be held before the service at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Louin Cemetery in Louin. The Rev. Cliff Lazenby will officiate. Jones and Son Funeral Home of Moselle, MS is in charge of arrangements.

Justin Hill, Jeffery Thompson, Reagan Robertson, Rusty Berry Adam Walters and Scott Smith will serve as Pallbearers. Travis Coats, Drew Wade, Ethan Boykin, Justin Anderson and RH Stockman will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions are made to the Hattiesburg Community Church Hurricane Ida Relief Fund. Donations can be dropped off or mailed to 114 Newell Sullivan Road, Hattiesburg, MS 39401. For more information, please visit Facebook on contact the church at 601-450-3422.
