Deacon Joe Green, Sr. was born on March 3, 1939 to the late Mary and John Green in Kingsville, South Carolina. He departed this life on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at his residence. He grew up and received his education in the public schools of Eastover, South Carolina.
Deacon Green met and married his wife, Clary Green on May 25, 1958. She preceded him in death in 2015.
Two children, Rose Mary and Dianne Green and one sister, Willie Mae Johnson also preceded him in death.
Deacon Green was an active member of True Faith Baptist Church. He worked faithfully throughout the church wherever he was needed. He was the Pulpit Deacon, a member of the Pastor's Aide and Missionary Boards and the Choir. He enjoyed watching the children worship and praise through song and dance.
He worked for Holly Hill Lumber Company until he retired. For the past 15 years, he worked for Holly Hill Farm Center. After a long day of work, he liked to watch wrestling and westerns for entertainment.
He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and a friend to all who crossed his path. To everybody in the community, he was known as "Jitterbug."
Left to cherish fond memories are his six loving children: Catherine (Joe) Hatcher, of Atlanta, Georgia, Richard Green, of Holly Hill, South Carolina, Reverend Joe (Bridget) Green, Jr., of Vance, South Carolina, Kenneth Green, Mary Ann Green, and Tyrone Green, all of Holly Hill, South Carolina. Five sisters: Rosa Lee Scott, Lillian Green, Ethel Mae Wise and Ida Mae (John) Tucker, of Gadsden, South Carolina and Mary (Joe) Bush, of Long Island, New York. Four brothers: Sammie Lee (Ida) Green, David Green and James Green, of Gadsden, South Carolina. Three sisters-in-law: Maytha (Charles) Green, of Holly Hill, South Carolina, Shirley Mae Banks and Ruthie Mae Banks, of Miami, Florida. Two brothers-in-law: John Johnson, of Eastover, South Carolina and Jack Banks, of Atlanta, Georgia. He also leaves eighteen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
