Mr. Lester McClendon

Lester and I became close friends in 1973 at Myers Park High School. We studied Karate together and watched Bruce Lee movies often. One day in I believe math class, several guys were harassing a girl and I told them to stop, and of course they told me to mind my business. I stood up, the seven guys jumped up to fight. Without any hesitation Lester jumped up and had my back. With just a few blows those guys backed down, and we all of course got suspended. That summer I moved to Florida...

I went to High School with Lester and was thinking about him very strongly early Spring of 2023. Lester sat in front of me in one of my classes and would turn around to face me and play the drums on my desk. A nice young man, our friendship never went any further than him playing the drums on my desk but it was memorable to me. He made me feel special. No doubt he made a difference in others' lives. May his memory live on.
