Mr. Warren “Precious” Dukes was born May 19, 1921 to the late Martin Dukes and Rachel Wright Dukes in Elloree, South Carolina and entered eternal rest on Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, SC.


He grew up in Elloree and Cameron communities where he completed his education in the public-school system. He served in World War II with the United States Army.  After his tenure in the army, he attended South Carolina State University. He taught in Orangeburg County School System and retired from Calhoun County School System after 32 years of teaching. 


He was an active member at Shiloh A.M.E Church where he served as church treasurer, Steward Board member, Men Usher Board Member, President of the Lay Organization, Class Leader and a member of the Senior Choir.  He was also a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.


He was joined in holy wedlock to the late Marie Townsend Dukes and to this union three children were born.


He leaves to cherish fond memories: Warren (Vanessa) Dukes, of Des Moines, Iowa, Ivy Dukes Prater, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Gilbert Dukes, of Suitland, Maryland. He has six grandchildren: Kamal Dukes, of Suitland, Maryland, Karim Dukes, of Daytona Beach, Florida, Ava Dukes, of Columbia, South Carolina, Maria Prater, Anthony and Andre Prater, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He has one great-grand, Jalen Frederick Dukes, of Daytona Beach, Florida. He has two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Johnson and Althea Townsend, of Holly Hill, South Carolina.  He leaves his special caregivers, Terrence Richburg and Margaret Green of Holly Hill, SC.  He has three special nieces: Evan Dukes, Vivian Butler Richardson and Shirley Pelzer, all of Elloree, SC.  He has one special nephew, Johnny Dukes, of Elloree, SC, He has one godson, Daniel Keller, of Santee, South Carolina.  He also has a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends that love him dearly.

My condolences to the Dukes family on the passing of your loved one. Mr. Dukes was my teacher at St. John Elementary School (5th & 8th grades) He was a great teacher. He will always be remembered. "earth has no sorrow, that heaven cannot heal"
