Winnfield Memorial Funeral Home - Natchitoches Obituary

Celebration of Life will go forth Saturday, September 28, 2024, 4:00 p. m., Winnfield Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 318 North Street, Natchitoches, LA 71457.  Burial will follow immediately in Lawrence Serenity Sanctum.

Elcener Dale Helaire the youngest of three children was born to the union of Phillip Denison Williams and Edna Steen Jackson Williams on November 11,1942 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Her twelve (12) years of school were spent at Central High School in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Elcener Dale was an honor graduate of the class of 1960. She attended Grambling College in Grambling, Louisiana.

On January 7, 1974, she united in Holy Matrimony to Tommy Lee Helaire. As a result of this marriage not only did God bless her with a good husband and provider. He also blessed her with eight (8) adorable children. These children are from Tommy Lee’s 1st marriage (the first wife was deceased). Was this an easy easy job? No! not at all, but God knew exactly what he was doing. Elcener Dale has worked in various jobs, but the job she enjoyed the most, worked the hardest, and the longest was trying to make sure that these eight little ones would one day grow up to be intelligent, obedient, respectable and God-fearing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip Denison Williams and Edna Steen Jackson Williams, her husband Tommy Lee Helaire, her only brother Ralph Lee Williams, her on sister Elsie Marie Williams Huey, a grandson Aberhim Helaire, a granddaughter Jamelah Renae Slate, and her adopted sister Lillie Bradley Helaire.

She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters Emma Helaire Slate Byrd(Danny), Barbara Helaire Owens(Gordon, Sr.) of Natchitoches, LA, Kimberly Ann Helaire(Victor) and Shuntell Felicia Helaire of Houston, TX; three sons Albert Helaire of Natchitoches, LA, Donald Ray Helaire of Houston, TX and Jerry Lynn Helaire(Andrea) of Monroe, LA; four sister-in-laws  Mary Helaire Roberson of DeRidder, LA, Camilla Helaire Cook of Humble, TX, Ruth Helaire LaCaze(Clarence) of Natchitoches, LA, Rosie Helaire Williams(Clyde) of Shreveport, LA; nineteen(19) grandchildren and twenty-seven(27) great grandchildren; her adopted granddaughter Emma Grace Helaire and her two children Alasiah Madriah Helaire and Ocietric LeTrell Ficklin, Jr,; three nieces and two nephews from her adopted sister and a host of friends and family

Not sure what to say?

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

Keeping you and family in our prayers

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

I have such fond memories of Mrs Helaire. As retired principal of Weaver and East Natchitoches Elementary, I enjoyed observing this kind woman inspire students as she worked as a substitute teacher. I recall many 6:00 am phone calls with Mrs. Helaire as she willingly agreed to help me for the day at my school. I can just picture her leading students down the hall reminding them to "look intelligent people." She was a wonderful role model and will be missed.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
