GARRETT, Agnes – our beloved mother, of Flint, age 91, was called home for eternal rest on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Her work here is done.
Agnes was born in Flint, Michigan on June 9, 1934, the daughter of the late Wallace Charles and Frances (Reid) Ross. She was the youngest of two children. Agnes attended Palmer Memorial Institute in Sedalia, N.C. and Flint Central High School. Agnes married Ray F. Garrett Jr. on May 15, 1951, and to that union were born four children. Agnes touched the lives of many people with her generous and kind soul. She was a “people person”, loving good company and good times. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, visits and conversations with friends and family, and above all else she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
The late Jackie Robinson said “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” Agnes affected so many lives with her advice, infectious smile, and personality. Everything Agnes did she did with class and style. Her Celebration of Life will continue through each of us, as we carry out her legacy.
Agnes leaves to cherish her memory,
Son, George “Abdul” Garrett (Colleen);
Daughter, Tracie Edwards (Alonzo);
Grandchildren, Rayna DeVeaux (Davon), Alonzo Edwards (Amani), Brennon Edwards, Andrea Garrett, Rayfield Garrett III (Danae) and Erica Keeling (Curtis);
Great-grandchildren, Lincoln Edwards-Yalkapova, William Garrett, Brooklyn Garrett, Deonnie Garrett, Onna’lesa Garrett;
Grand dog, Diamond Edwards;
Special nieces, Alison Chatmon, Frances Russell, Renita Coney Mays, and Phyllis Sykes;
Special friends, Betty Washington Harvey, Bella Kritz, and Audrey Dismond.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray F. Garrett Jr., sons, Darrell Garrett and Charles Garrett, granddaughter, Tracie Garrett, brother, Charles Wallace Ross, and grand dog, Pepper Edwards.
Words cannot express how much all of your love and support given to Agnes and our family during this difficult time has meant to us. Thank you all.
Agnes’ Celebration of Life memorial will be held on Friday, August 22nd from 4-8pm at 3525 E. Court Street, Flint, MI 48506 (the Jazzercise building). Attire: party-ready/comfortable.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to $racietrey (Cash App) or @simitre (Venmo).

I have nothing but precious memories of Mrs. Garrett and will cherish them forever. As the angel "awares" who lived next door during my formative years, she was an exemplary role model and encourager who played a big part of shaping my life values today. I am keeping the family in my prayers for God's comfort and peace, and the loving support of all who were blessed to have Mrs. Garrett in their lives.

Mrs. Garrett was not only the heart of the Garrett Family, she was the hub of our community from her Capitol on 9th Street to the very ends of the earth. She provided an open door, a hospital home, practical and progressive advice and unconditional love to all of us--extending from our childhood to our entire adulthood. Effervescent, positive and radiantly beautiful, she was a shining light in our neighborhood and our world. As she departs for a fairer land above, I am praying God's comfort...

Mrs Garrett was a beautiful lady with a beautiful soul. We her neighbors when I was a very young girl on 5th street and she was always so sweet and loving to us kids as we were growing up. I miss her so much! Lorene Washington

I will love her for her warmth and generosity and for always welcoming me into her home with a big smile, laughter, and a hug.
She supported and championed me during times of sadness and confusion. The details of this are unspoken and remain between T and me.
She was the creator of the uni-braid that Tracie wore throughout elementary school. Tracie was over it but I always knew that the braid was her way of keeping things simple yet distinct and memorable. I’ll never...
