Joi Shecanah Ham, the daughter of Juliet and Joseph Ham Jr., was born into this world on January 12, 1988 in North Charleston, SC at Trident Technical Hospital. Friday morning, August 25th, she departed from this life at her home in Philadelphia, PA.

Joi was a graduate of the first annual class of Lake Marion High School in Santee, SC. She attended Lovely Hill Baptist Church and accepted the lord Jesus at an early age where she was baptized and served faithfully on the youth choir.

Joi attended Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA and then continued her education where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Over the years, she was employed with various healthcare agencies. During the height of the COVID pandemic when there was a shortage of nurses, Joi worked countless hours meeting the needs of her patients. She was affectionately known by the family as “The Baby Girl and The Boss.”

She leaves to cherish her memories: Xavier Whitehead of Philadelphia, PA, a son she was privileged and honored to raise; a loving and devoted mother and father; Juliet Ham of Holly Hill, SC and Reverend Joseph Ham Jr. of Elloree, SC; stepmother, Barbara Butler-Ham; brothers, Jeremy Ham of Charlotte, NC and MaxJulian Ham of Los Angeles, CA; stepsister, Bernadette Anderson of Elloree, SC; paternal aunt, Hattie Collins of Washington, DC; maternal great aunt, Effie (Liz) Owens and a host of relatives, friends, and classmates. Joi was also cherished by Courtney (Vonnie) and the entire Whitehead family of Philadelphia, PA who loved and cared for her.

The family will be receiving friends 4:00-8:00 P.M. daily. Please use Covid-19 Protocol when visiting the family. Online condolences may be sent to www.shulermarshallfuneralhome.com.

Not sure what to say?

Juliet I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your dear daughter. You and your family is in my prayers. Death is never easy to deal with

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. From Darralyn smalls and family- Darling Granddaughter

Our deepest condolences to all of Joi’s family and friends. The Smith family is forever grateful to Joi for the time she spent caring for Lewis. Joi was his first nurse. When we met Joi, her first question was not the medical specifics of caring for Lewis, but rather what she could do to have the most meaningful impact in our lives. We have not met the Ham family, but through the year she was with us we feel we know you all. We feel the pain of your loss of such a wonderful person who...

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.

Our deepest condolences to the family of Joi Ham. It was our privilege to honor Joi as one of our nursing colleagues. Nurses Honor Guard of SC
