(Lillie) Muriel Rowland Duckett (Lillie) Muriel Rowland Duckett, 93, of Austin, made her final journey to her heavenly home Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007 at Sagebrook Health Center, Cedar Park, TX. Muriel was the eldest of four children born to John F. and Emily Rowland on June 10, 1914 in Leander, TX. She was raised during the Great Depression graduating from Liberty Hill High School in 1932. As a young girl, Muriel accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Liberty Hill, TX. Returning to Leander, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was very busy being a homemaker and volunteering time to P.T.A. After moving to Austin, she was a member of East Avenue Baptist Church, Tarrytown Baptist Church and Great Hills Baptist Church. She loved her Bible classes and singing in the choirs. She began a career with the Texas Highway Dept. which spanned 27 years and during those years, she was steadfast and selfless in rearing three children, each receiving their undergraduate degrees from UT Austin. After retiring, Muriel enjoyed making quilts, playing '42' and traveling with senior groups. Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, E.A. Duckett; infant daughter, Joyce Elaine Duckett; parents, John and Emily Rowland; brother, H. Russell Rowland; brother, John E. Rowland and wife, Oleta; sister, Pauline Jamison and husband, John; daughter- in-law, Grace Nichols Duckett. Muriel is survived by daughter, Jo Ann Rogers and husband, Glenn of Lakeway, TX; sons, W. Bert Duckett and wife, Brenda of Richardson, TX and John D. Duckett and wife, Kitty of Spring, TX. Muriel (better known as Nanny D.) took great delight in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Six surviving grandchildren are John G. Rogers and wife, Ann of Dallas, TX; Beverly Rogers Conner and husband, Tom of Round Rock, TX; Joy Duckett Pickering and husband, Grover of Plano, TX; Christy Duckett Redmond and husband, Andy also of Plano, TX; Stacy Duckett of Alpine, TX; Bradley Duckett of Houston, TX. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren, a dear sister-in-law, Evelyn Wingard Rowland, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Muriel's family wishes to thank Dr. William Evans and the staffs of The Pointe at Cedar Park and Sagebrook Health Center for their expertise and loving care in her last years with Alzheimer's. Our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother will live on in our memory as the gentle, sweet and gracious matriarch of the Duckett family. Visitation will be at Cook-Walden, N. Lamar location Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Great Hall of Great Hills Baptist Church, 10500 Jollyville Rd. with Rev. Glenn Rogers, son-in-law of the deceased officiating. Burial will follow in Bagdad Cemetery, Leander, TX. Pallbearers are Winn Pinkston, Lester McCullough, Charles Craven, Andy Redmond, Grover Pickering, and Tom Conner. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Fisher, Herb Gardner, Bob Shaver and Charlie Barr.
