Not sure what to say?

Sending my deepest condolences to you all. I was blessed to have been one of the first patients of Dr Johns at the Epworth Sleepiness centre, I as a very scared WRAN and kept in touch throughout the years, eveb quite recently. A gentleman whose work and compassion for others, helped so many not just me. My family and I came to think of him as a friend. Thinking of you all.

Deepest condolences. Dr Johns made a lasting contribution to our understanding of the impact of sleepiness related to Obstructive Sleep Apnea. His work stimulated investigators throughout the world to look carefully into the measurement of self reported sleepiness. Patrick J Strollo, Jr, MD Professor of Medicine and Clinical and Translational Science University of Pittsburgh

Sincere and deep condolences to Penny, Fleur, Diana and all of Murray´s family and friends on behalf of the Sleep Health Foundation. Murray was a true pioneer and legend of the sleep field here in Australia and internationally. He will be missed and his strong legacy will live on. We are thankful for his innovation, passion and leadership in the sleep arena. Rest in peace Murray.

A sad loss from a dwindling cohort. Penny, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Ro and Daisy Meyers.

Dear Murray, you were a brilliant, innovative scientist and clinician, but also a gentle, kind, beautiful human being, as yesterday's moving celebration of your life showed. You were also very special for me, as a mentor and a friend. When in 1987 I sent you my master's in psychology thesis on a new non-drug self-help program for insomnia, you said you were about to set up Australia's first digital sleep lab at the Epworth, and asked if you could refer some of your sleep patients to me, the...

I met Murray in 1980 with Ross Kalucy and Doug McEvoy to discuss collaboration in sleep research. He always struck me as an innovative and creative thinker with an unquenchable enthusiasm for the science and clinical practice of sleep disorders. In the early period of practice sleep physicians would enquire whether a patient was experiencing sleepiness without consistency or standardisatio. To remedy this poor clinical practice Murray devised the clever Epworth Sleepiness Scale that spread...

We all stand on the shoulders of giants in our scientific fields, and in sleep research, Murray is a treasured one. Dr Johns challenged us to think deeply, and to make a difference. From colleagues at the Appleton Institute, our sincerest condolences.

Sincere condolences to Penny, Fleur, Diana and families. I remember Murray with great respect and affection from my time in respiratory medicine at Epworth. He was indeed an outstanding consultant and innovator.

My sincere condolences to Penny, Fleur, Diana and families, I will remember Murray always as my first boss, mentor and friend. Being the first employee at Optalert and having the privilege to work with and learn from Murray for 11 years is something I will cherish always. Murray was always so inspiring, gentle and encouraging to all around him - and extremely intelligent. I have fond memories of working at Murray´s dining room table on the early development of the Johns Drowsiness Scale....
