Murrel Anthony Hubble Sr.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7. An employee of the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office and former chief of police of Donaldsonville, he was entrusted to God's loving care on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at 5:06 p.m. He was 65, a resident of Donaldsonville, native of New Orleans and U.S. Air Force veteran. Visitation will commence at Ourso Funeral Home, Donaldsonville, on Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 8 a.m. until procession at 10:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, Donaldsonville, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Phil Spano, celebrant. Interment in the church cemetery. Survived by his wife of 31 years, Rebecca "Becky" Adams Hubble; son, Murrel "Li'l Mo" Hubble Jr.; and daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Hubble Pitre and Terry, all of Donaldsonville. Also survived by a stepson, Robert Rhodes and wife Melanie, Gonzales; sister and brother-in-law, Toni and Fred Fassbender, Daphne, Ala.; nephew, Brett Summers, New Orleans; niece, Kristi Fassbender Vangilder and husband Lenny; great-nephew, Jacob Vangilder; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Murrel was preceded in death by his parents, Ardale and Lucille Trapani Hubble; grandparents, Amedee and Mabel Benoit Hubble and Philip and Louise Canova Trapani. After graduating from Ascension Catholic High School, Murrel joined the U.S. Air Force. Once Murrel was discharged, he returned to his hometown of Donaldsonville and following in his father's footsteps he joined the Donaldsonville Police Department. He remained with the city police and served as chief of police. When Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office assumed responsibility of city law enforcement, Murrel became a deputy in classification at the Ascension Parish jail in Donaldsonville. He served in law enforcement for about 46 years. Pallbearers will be Brett Summers, Murrel Hubble Jr., Terry Pitre, Fred Fassbender, Robert Rhodes and Shawn Winchester.
