Myra Austin Benton, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, went home to be with Jesus on May 23, 2011. She died peacefully at home with family by her side. She fought her cancer with courage and determination throughout the entire journey.
She was born September 9, 1931 in Union County to the late J. Clayton and Ossee Clontz Austin. She was married to Jesse M. Benton, Sr. for 52 very happy years. He also went home to be with Jesus on June 9, 2004. Myra was also preceded in death by a son, Jesse Morris Benton, Jr. on Sept. 30, 2002.
She was an avid baker, well known for her pound cakes. She loved her family and friends and loved people. A member of Benton Crossroads Baptist Church, she also loved her church family dearly.
Myra is survived by a daughter, Tia Benton Tomberlin; 4 grandchildren, Andrea Benton Lamm and husband Brent, Jason Pollock and wife Jacklyn, Tabitha Benton Harris and husband Adam and Jessica Pollock Drake and husband Scott; 7 great grandchildren, Colby, Weston, Bryson, Carson, Trenton, Parker and Emma Claire.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Gordon Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Benton's Cross Roads Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.

I will always remember Aunt Myra as the beautiful, fun loving lady that she was. She always made me laugh. The service today was so beautiful. I take comfort knowing that she and grandma have reunited and heaven is a little sweeter place today.
