Myron L. Smoot, 58, transitioned from this life to life eternal on Saturday, August 31, 2019 in Dallas, Texas.
Myron was born January 9, 1961, and was the son of Johnny and Odell Smoot. Raised in Gadsden, AL, Smoot was a 1983 graduate of The University of Alabama where he majored in Commerce and Business Administration. While at The University of Alabama, he was a member of the Kappa Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
A career banker, Myron began his professional career in Birmingham, AL with Central Bank of the South. Over the course of 35 years, Smoot held a number of leadership roles in Banking and Finance organizations in several states.
A man of faith, Myron was ordained as a deacon at Sardis Baptist Church where he met his wife Tonya in 1987. Married in 1991, they gave birth to their daughter Moriah in 1994 and shared a joyous life of commitment to faith and family.
Myron and his family lived in Alabama, Texas, North Carolina, and Kentucky. In each of these communities, Myron demonstrated a commitment to service, working with his local churches, community groups, and his local fraternity chapters.
Myron was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Lee Smith, Cleo Smith, Anne Smith Small, Clinton Smith and Virginia Smith; birth parents Curtis W. Horton and Sara F. Terry-Moton; and Godfather Tyrone H. Belcher Sr. He is survived by his loving wife Dr. Tonya M. Smoot and daughter Moriah S. Smoot, J.D. Survivors also include Godson Julian R. N. Jackson; sisters-in-law Donna R. McMillan (Dayton, OH) and Mary D. Smith (Atlanta, GA); sisters Cassandra Johnson (Tuskegee Institute, AL) and Kurtina Moore (Thomasville, GA); aunt and uncle Nat and Jean Williams (GA), great aunt Clemmie Jones (Lanett, AL), Godmother Gloria J. Belcher (Birmingham, AL); family Mr. and Mrs. Byron (Sharon) Temple (DeSoto, TX), Mr. and Mrs. Roderick (Karla) Howard (Arlington, TX), Mr. and Mrs. Adrian (Quil) Howard (Cedar Hill, TX), Mr. and Mrs. Melvin (Sandra) Gardner (Midlothian, TX); prayer partner and brother of over 30 years Dr. Adolphus M. Jackson (Birmingham, AL); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Myron L. Smoot Memorial Scholarship Grant with the National Alumni Association at The University of Alabama.
