Myrtle M. Hartner, 97, long-time Topeka resident, died on Saturday morning, May 17, 2008 at the St. Marys Manor. She was born April 1, 1911 in Maple Hill the daughter of Robert F.. and Clara Allen Fauerbach. She was christened at the Swedish Lutheran Church in St. Marys and was raised on the family farm east of Maple Hill. Mrs. Hartner graduated from Maple Hill High School and moved to Topeka after graduation; she was employed at Morrell Packing Company. She was a homemaker for many years and then pursued a dream by graduating from Stewart Beauty School; she was employed at Ednas Beauty Salon in North Topeka. In later years, she was a bookkeeper for Hartner Excavating Co. and Northland Western Auto Store both owned and operated by her husband in North Topeka area. Mrs. Hartner was a long-time member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where she was active in UMW, a Sunday school teacher and youth leader. After moving to the Oakland area in 1986, she transferred her membership to Oakland United Methodist Church. She was a member of Helena Chapter, #210 O..E.S. and had received a 50 year membership pin. Mrs.. Hartner was involved in the organization of the Mothers Study group at Rochester Grade School in the late 40s and served as its president. She also served as president of North Topeka Kiwanis Dames. She and her husband were active members of the Good Sams Camping organization and served as president of the club. On November 2, 1933 she was united in marriage to William D. Hartner, Jr. at her parents home. To this union were born two sons, William D. (Buck) Hartner III and Daryl D. Hartner. Mrs. Hartner was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter, Sharon Marie and her son Buck, her parents and four siblings. Survivors include her son, Daryl Hartner of Delia, Daughter-in-law, Joyce of El Dorado, grandchildren, Heather Hartner of Austin, TX, Dana Hartner of Delia, W. David Hartner IV and Heidi Tanner all of Topeka. She has four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rochester Cemetery. She will lie in state from 1-9 on Monday where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m.
