Nabil Sayegh Obituary

Dr. Nabil J. Sayegh

Yonkers - It is with our heartfelt and deep sadness tempered only by the certainty of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, that we announce the falling asleep in the Lord, of the servant of God, Nabil J. Sayegh, on March 30, 2018. NABIL J. SAYEGH, 68 of Upper Nyack, New York, passed into life eternal on Friday, March 30, 2018, while surrounded by his wife, children, siblings, nephews, and cousins. He was born in Jordan to Jamil and Jallilah Sayegh and immigrated to the United States (New York) in 1957. Following the sudden and unexpected passing of his father Jamil in 1965, Nabil, the eldest of 8 children, was left with the heavy responsibility, along with his Mom, to help raise, guide and nurture his siblings. Learning at an early age the need to work hard, Nabil worked tirelessly, and together, he and four brothers became well respected and compassionate physicians in the City of Yonkers and another brother became both an educator and attorney. Nabil also has two sisters, both with their own accomplishments in education. Along with his Mother, Nabil was one of the founding members of his life-long home parish, the Virgin Mary Antiochian Church of Yonkers, New York where he worked throughout his life, giving of his time, efforts, love and contributions and serving as Parish Council Chairman for many years. To all who had the good fortune to meet or know Nabil, they would immediately sense the goodness of his heart, his free expression of love, and his compassion, along with many other gifts that he possessed. An astute man who had a passion for history and political science, Nabil became an accomplished physician and surgeon with a respected and successful practice in Urology in New City, New York since 1984. Numerous testaments of many of his patients will attest to his dedication and personal compassion for his patients throughout his professional career. Well respected and revered by his professional peers, Nabil gave his time and talents to assist whenever his help was needed. It was only two years ago that Nabil was honored by the faculty of Nyack Hospital. He received the "Physician of the Year" award for his professional skills and dedication to his patients and to the hospital. A good friend and personal physician to the late Metropolitan PHILIP, Primate of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, Nabil was awarded the Antonion Medal of Honor for his lifelong dedication of love of the Church. Nabil was a pillar of his family, community, and his church. His presence could always be felt when he entered a room, especially with his bright smile. His personality exuded strength, confidence, and a sense of courage.Nabil was an exemplary husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, father-in-law, cousin, and friend to countless people. He was a respectable member of his community on all levels. A strong-willed man but gentle at the same time, Nabil taught many of his family how to be a "man" in all respects. Nabil is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Jacqueline of almost 40 years, children, Alia (Roy), Zaina (Joseph), James, Paul (Samira), Rima (Shadi), Peter and through them 4 grandchildren Julianna, Danielle, Isabella, Henry Joseph and a fifth expected soon; his Mother Jalilah (Um Nabil), siblings, Nayel, Nader, Nadem, Nacem (James) , Nancy and Rima, many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Nabil was preceded in death by his father Jamil, brother Nazar and nephew Michael. Nabil's passing into life eternal is a great loss to the family and community at large. A man with respected virtues and strong principles, his absence will be felt across the board by so many who loved and respected him. We know, however, that his children are his legacy and they possess all of the good qualities of Nabil. Two of Nabil's sons, James and Peter, like their father, have dedicated their lives to practicing medicine and helping those in need. Nabil's passing is a great loss to the family and community. Our hearts are truly broken and the loss of this Giant in our family. We humbly ask for your prayers as we continue to struggle with our loss. Services will be held at the Virgin Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 236 Grandview Boulevard, Yonkers, New York, on Monday, April 2, 2018, from 4 - 8 pm (Wake) and Tuesday, April 3, 2018, funeral service at 10:00 a.m. His Eminence Metropolitan JOSEPH will preside. In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests that donations be made to the Virgin Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 236 Grandview Boulevard, Yonkers, New York 10710.

It was with great regret that we learned of the death of Dr. Sayegh. We met him many years ago when my brother-in-law traveled here from Egypt to attend a funeral. He became very ill while here and Dr. Sayegh took excellent care of him. He referred us to other doctors as well. We will always remember his kindness and generosity. Our condolences to his family.

My dad was a patient of his for many years. He was compassionate, and thorough. He always spoke directly to my dad even though he had dementia and didn't always grasp what he was explaining. He was such a kind and caring man. He will be missed.
