Nadalyn Miller Cotten

1927 - 2018

Nadalyn Miller Cotten passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5th, 2018, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was proceeded in death by her adoring husband Roger Carruth Cotten; three brothers, John Edward, Hainon Alfred, and Wesley Lamar Miller; parents, Louise Johnston Miller and John Wesley Miller; step-mother Rosa Mae Miller; and half-sister Carol Ann Kay. Nadalyn is survived by her children, Amanda LaNelle Cotten and Caroline Cotten Perschall (Adam); two grandchildren, Aidan and Amelie Perschall; one sister; LaNelle Alford; two sisters-in-law, Lilian Henderson Miller and Juanita Spears Miller; half-sister, Anita West (Randy); fourteen nieces and nephews, and many more grand-nieces and nephews. Born in Clinton, Mississippi, Nadalyn graduated from Clinton High School and then Mississippi College with a B. A. in English. Not long after graduating from college, Nadalyn married Roger and they moved to New Orleans where they remained for the balance of their lives together. Nadalyn's first career was working for Dr. C. M. Dougherty, whom she considered a lifelong mentor. Her second career was as a loving and devoted wife, mother, homemaker, and volunteer. Upon the death of her husband, Roger, Nadalyn returned to work, taking control of his companies until her retirement. Throughout her life, Nadalyn remained devoted to family, friends and community, She was very active in many local organizations, volunteering much of her time to the New Orleans Opera Guild, Metairie Garden Club, St. Martin's Episcopal Church and later, Christ Church Cathedral. Perhaps her greatest volunteer involvement was with her daughters' school and to her church and its surrounding community. Over the course of two decades, Nadalyn wore many hats at Metairie Park Country Day School. She served one term as President of the Parents' Association, and several years as a member of the Board of Trustees, not to mention countless hours volunteering in her daughters' classrooms! Nadalyn was also a loyal and devoted member of Christ Church Cathedral, where she volunteered in numerous ways, serving on several Cathedral committees, and most notably overseeing a monumental and nationally regarded needlepoint project commemorating the Parishes' Bicentennial in 2005. Her kindness and generosity of spirit will be remembered by all who knew her. Nadalyn's family would like to give special thanks to Gail Russell and to all the staff at Passages Hospice, for their compassion, dedication, and kindness. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 16, 2018 at Christ Church Cathedral, 2919 St Charles Ave, New Orleans, LA, 70130, by The Very Reverend David A. duPlantier, Dean. Visitation will begin at 10:15 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m.. A private interment will take place at Metairie Cemetery immediately following the service.
