Nan Sutton passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2014 surrounded by her husband and members of her loving family after battling progressive pulmonary disease for many years. Born on November 23, 1957 in Birmingham, Alabama, she was predeceased by her parents, Minous R. Blevins and Almeda Jones Blevins, originally of Mentone, Alabama. After being disabled by leukemia and a bone marrow transplant with subsequent side effects in the middle 1990's, Mrs. Sutton returned to school and completed her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Alabama – Birmingham, and was a volunteer for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and a hospice organization. In 2000, she was awarded the Life Achievement Award by the Birmingham Chapter of the American Cancer Society. She is survived by her husband of almost 30 years, David Sutton of Blairsville, and their two sons, Gregory Paul and Nicholas Adam. Also surviving her are her eight siblings: William Blevins (Susan); Betty B. East; Sara B. Williamson (Harold); Fred Blevins (Lane); Dot B. Cranford (Wayne); Ronnie Blevins; Eva B. Frederick (Glen); and Charles (Chuck) Blevins (Sheila); and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving her are her brother in-law and sister in-law, Arthur W. Sutton, III (Beverly) and Elizabeth S. Carson (Michael). Nan was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County in Blairsville. A Celebration of Life service was held on January 20, 2014 at the church, officiated by the Reverend Mark Burgess, Senior Pastor, a close family friend. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Nan's memory to either the American Lung Association or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements. You may sign the family guest book and send condolences to the family on line at www.mountainviewfuneralhome.com

Not sure what to say?

My wife, Cindy and I are heartbroken to hear the news of Nan's passing. My wife chose Nan to be her Maid of Honor at our wedding in June of 1977. We are still married today. When we heard of Nan's passing, We sat on the couch and quietly wept. We hope God's loving arms will hold her family together during such a difficult time. She was a great friend.

I met Nan at church when we were in the 5th grade. We went to school together and were best friends by the time we were in high school. We lost touch with each a few years after high school. Nan was sweet, smart, pretty and fun to be around. I admired her confidence and courage.

My prayers are with the family.

I've been missing her for years.
Cindy Liles McKee

I remember Nan from West End High School. She was such a funny girl with a great sense of humor and the sweetest smile...loved to laugh, so genuine and kind hearted. I hate that we lost contact through the years. Sympathy and Prayers go out to her loved ones. May she rest in peace. <3

Offering our deepest condolences during this difficult time.
