Wilson Funeral Home - Tampa Obituary

Visitation and Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy Butler Andrews will be held Monday, February 8, 2016. Family visitation and organization presentation will be held from 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 A.M. at the Beulah Baptist Institutional Church, 1006 W. Cypress Street, Tampa, Florida, where Dr. W. James Favorite is Pastor with Rev. Dr. Delores J. Cain, officiating. Interment will be held at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, Tampa, FL.


Mrs. Nancy Mildred Butler Andrews was born on December 8, 1929 to Herbert Charles and Lillian Kelly Butler in Bessemer, AL. Nancy attended public schools in Bessmer and graduated Valedictorian of the class of 1947 from Dunbar High School.


Nancy was lovingly called ‘Nan-Nan by her brothers, graduated from Talladega College. There she met the ‘love of her life’, Dr. William ‘Billy’ Andrews. Into this union, 4 children were born. Their marriage was celebrated for more than 65 years. In 1964, Dr. Billy and Nancy and their children returned to Dr. Andrews’ hometown, Tampa to begin his medical practice as a general surgeon. Nancy served as office administrator from 1982 until their retirement in September 2012.


Nancy loved reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting and cheering for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.


Nancy was a faithful member of Beulah Baptist Institutional Church for over 55 years. She was a tireless worker on the Ladies Sanctuary Guild. She was a ‘Golden Soror’ life member of Gamma Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and a Platinum (50 year) member of Tampa Chapter of The Links, Inc. She was also a member of the Grand Assembly of Lily Security Benefit Association, and the Crompton Council.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William ‘Billy’ Andrews who died on November 13, 2015; and 3 older siblings, Herbert, Philander ‘Bo’ Butler and Dorothy Butler Jones.

She leaves to cherish memories of her and continue her legacy: her children, Johna Andrews Treadwell (Garold), Lillian Andrews Ponquinette, W. Michelle Andrews Foster (Dr. Kendal), Dr. Sharon Patricia Andrews (fiancé, Stanley); 6 grandchildren, Kathryn Treadwell, Kendal Foster, Jr., Atty. William "Billy" Treadwell, Lindsey Marcie Harding, Michael Andrews Foster and Kelli Michelle Foster; 2 great-grandchildren, Kendall, III and Ava Grace Foster; sister-in-law, Gloria Adams Andrews; nieces and nephew, Gayle Andrews, Sybil ‘Kay’ Andrews, Dr. Susan Andrews Blanchette, C. Blythe Andrews, III, (Sylvia), Dr. Nancy Andrews Collins (Dr. Kevin), Cheryl Jones Byrd (Chuck), Rhonda Jones, Nancy Jones, Herbert Garland Butler, and Marissa Butler Marion (Joseph); great nieces and nephews, Douglas Thornton (Susie), Dr. Alexis Wells Oghoghomeh (Akerho), Dr. Lauren Thornton, Allison Wells Clebert (Richard), Erin and Micah Jones, Andrew Church, Dominique and Gabrielle Blanchette, C. Blythe, IV, Ayla, William, IV, Adam and Hermione Andrews, Maxwell and Miles Collins; great great nieces and nephews, Ayana, Anaya and Richard, Jr. Clebert. and Ekwheri Oghoghomeh; brother-in-law, Dr. James Jones; cousin, Yvonne Fisher and close friends, Ruby Brown, Dr. Juel Smith and Mary Currie.


We can shed tears, our Mom is gone, or we can smile because she has lived…or We can cherish her memory and let it live on…We can cry and close our mind or we can do what Mom would want Smile, open your eyes, love and go on!

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you. My soul cries out Amazing Grace, that is what Mrs. Andrews showed to me, I can still hear her southern voice "Ida" what are you and Lillian up to. God has called Momma Nancy home but memories of her will last forever. Peace be with you my Andrews family.
