Nancy Archibald Obituary

Nancy Adele (Nilson) Archibald, of Hingham, formerly of Scituate and Milton, passed away peacefully on the morning on July 21, 2017. She was the beloved wife of nearly 50 years to the late Robert E. Archibald, who predeceased her in 2001. Born in Quincy and raised in Milton, she was the daughter of the late A. Paul Nilson and Mildred Hicks Nilson. She was a graduate of Milton High School, Class of 1947, and earned her bachelor's degree from Colby College in 1951 and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was employed for many years as a legal secretary. Nancy was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Norwell. She was the treasurer of the Taurine Bibliophiles of America, which was founded by her late husband. Her generous and kind nature led her to be an active volunteer throughout her life, namely at the Norwell Food Pantry and the Scituate Etrusco. She had a lifelong passion for learning, always challenging herself, by taking courses and in practicing cultural awareness. Nancy could actively take part in conversations on nearly any topic presented to her. She was caring and loyal in her personal relationships and was an example of grace and poise, even while in the care of the hospital in her last days. Above all else, she will be remembered and adored for the unconditional love she gave to her family. She was the devoted mother of Marylee Muise and her late husband David of Halifax, Melissa A. White and her husband Stephen of Norwell and Suzanne Archibald and her husband Jim Ammirato of Newton; cherished Nanna of Bryan Paul Muise and his wife Shelly, Alexander James White, Kyle Christopher White and James Theo Ammirato; proud great-grandmother to Charlie Ann Muise and Shea Taylor Millman. She was the loving companion to Bob Wittenauer of Hingham. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Visiting hours Friday, July 28, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Memorial celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Christ, 460 Main Street, Norwell. Interment to take place privately. A memorial service will take place at Linden Ponds at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Scituate Etrusco Associates, Inc., PO Box 265, Scituate, MA 02066. Nancy and I have been friends since 7th grade.
Her mother r and my mother were together at Milton High
School.
I will miss Nancy's gentle ways, her kind heart, her beauty, and
her intelligence. Right now I can hear her lovely laugh and I will
hear it forever.
My deep sympathy to her daughters and to all the people who
loved her as I did.

I am so sorry to learn of Mrs. Archibald's passing. When I worked at Linden Ponds, I recognized her one day in the hallway. We had a lovely chat and I told her my name. I was the little girl across the street, and I shared with her a vivid memory I have of being in her kitchen watching her peel apples. It was a special moment for both of us. My sincerest sympathy to your family. No doubt you have countless memories to warm your heart in the days ahead.

Marylee, Melissa, and Suzanne, I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom. I have such great memories of her and your dad throughout my childhood and beyond. Although I don't have an active memory of the event, I was the flower girl at your parents' wedding and from the stories I heard, I enjoyed this very much!! My mother often talked about how pleased she was when your mother was born since she finally had another cousin. They maintained such a nice relationship throughout the years. It was always a pleasure for me when I was able to be a part of a visit with your mother either on the Cape or in Scituate. My thoughts will be with you from my home in Alaska this weekend.

When I think of your mom, I immediately think of her beautiful smile and the twinkle in her eyes! I always enjoyed taking my mom to visit your grandmother, who had that same twinkle. When my mother was still able to travel, we both loved our visits to Scituate and then Linden Ponds to see your mother. It gave my mother such pleasure to see her cousin. Nan always spoke with such love and pride of "the girls" and their wonderful husbands and children. She had such warmth and enthusiasm for life. Your mother, grandmother, great grandmother was such an integral part of the fabric of your lives that there will be a void, but her love for her family will always live on in your hearts. My mom and I send our love to you all. Edie and Ginny

I will miss you beyond words dear cousin. You have been a wonderful friend, just like being with you. My heart goes out to your girls and their families as you
spoke of your love for them often. Just as our mothers are together again, one day we will all have a heavenly reunion.. Godspeed with so much love.

To Marylee, Melissa & Suzanne: So sorry to hear of the recent loss of your mom. I have good memories of the times we would get together with your parents and my dad (Uncle Speed) and mom (Aunt Loie) and our grandparents in Milton. Wish we could be there for the service but we are already attending a memorial service for another relative in Mass. at the same time this Saturday. Sending prayers and condolences your way, Bruce Nilson
