CLOSED-Harvey Family Funeral Home Obituary

Nancy (Markey) BENJAMIN

Born January 3, 1930, died in the presence of her children, March 8, 2013.

Nancy was born in Manila, Philippines, to Joseph and Elizabeth Markey. The family moved back to the states in 1934 and lived on Bainbridge Island. They later moved to Capitol Hill, in Seattle. She attended and graduated from Holy Names Academy in 1948 and it was there that she made many lifelong friendships. She attended Seattle University, and later met and married Robert (Bob) Benjamin. The family moved to Portland, Oregon in 1971, where they spent many happy years. After Bob's retirement, they moved to San Diego, but eventually returned to Seattle to be near their children and grandchildren.

Mom loved people and made friends easily. She loved to laugh and was always the life of the party. She was tolerant and welcoming to everyone she encountered, and she championed the underdog. As a mother, wife and friend, she was always devoted, caring and fun, encouraging us all to use humor when times were tough.
Loving mother of Barbara Simard (Mark), Robert Benjamin, Michael Benjamin (Stephanie) and William Benjamin; grandmother of Claire, Billy, Molly, Lauren, Charlie and Wally.

Nancy was preceded in death in 2007, by Robert, her loving husband of 49 years; and her brothers, Jim and Joe Markey.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery and a Memorial, celebrating her life will be announced at a later date.

Remembrances may be made to: Alzheimer's Assn. 100 W. Harrison St., North Tower #200, Seattle 98119, or to
Providence Hospice of Seattle, 425 Pontius Ave N, #300, Seattle, 98109.

WONDERFUL MEMORIES OF NANCY AND BOB

Although we hadn't seen Nancy for some time we have such wonderful memories of times past as we grew up together on Bainbridge Island. This is Bob. I have fond memories of the whole Markey family. Jim and I were in the same class, Joe was in the class of 1945 and Nancy was the little sister known as "Pretty Nan" which she was. I didn't see much of her until she moved to Portland where our daughter and grandchildren lived. We saw the Benjamin family one Christmas holiday when there were...

Oh, how we will miss her, wonderful memories of Nancy singing and telling stories. We enjoyed our friendship with her. Jack and Helene Talbot

Dear Family,
Christ's special peace be yours as a sharing in your dear mother's Eternal Peace. Please be assured of a remembrance in our thoughts and daily prayers. What a blessing and privilege it is to send home to our God such a faith-filled woman. Holy Names Academy will always be happy to claim her as one of our alums. May God's infinite and merciful love bring you strength and comfort at this time.
God bless each and all of you!
In Jesus and Mary,
Sister Ilene...

So sorry to hear of the loss of Nancy. Wonderful neighbor and family friend for many years. Her wonderful sense of humor, caring and passionate personality will be missed! My thoughts and prayers to the Benjamin family.
